food_drive_girl.jpg Yom Kippur Food Donations

Our Beth Or partner, Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, helps more homeless people to move into independent living than does any other shelter in the county.  When a family moves out of  Chapman Partnership  they are provided with "care-packages" that include food for their new home.

On Yom Kippur we are collecting donations of non-perishable food items. (There will be collection boxes in the lobby at Christ the King.) As you shop over the next few weeks, please pick up items like cereal, rice, canned goods, nuts and healthy snacks to contribute to a  generous contribution from Temple Beth Or.

Thank you for your ongoing support for the homeless families in our community.

Celebrate with an Oneg Shabbat!

Oneg Dates are available at various time during the 2015-16 year!

It's a wonderful opportunity to recognize, remember, and celebrate with the Beth Or community on Shabbat.

Coming up:  September's "Last Friday" Farbrengen Shabbat will be just a couple of days after Yom Kippur, with Sukkot approaching.  If you're interested in leading a short discussion relevant to the season, it's easy to incorporate that into the Shabbat service.

Contact the TBO office for more information.

Interfaith Service
Sunday, October 18, 2015
4:30 p.m

Christ the King will be hosting the this year's interfaith service on October 18 at 4:30 p.m. and  would be delighted for Beth Or to participate!

Pat Matthews, CTK's Music Director, will lead a joint choir that we'd love for TBO choir members to be part of.

Red Tent October Meeting

We are changing the location of the October 11 meeting to Bette Spector's home.

We will meet at the Palace at a later date when Norma is fully recovered.

One or two volunteers are needed to host the meeting at Bette's house.  Please let her know either directly or through the Temple office.

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN
...continues to grow!
gardening-items.jpg

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN needs green thumbs!

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

Just a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters energize our Garden areas  - you have the infrastructure.  Cultivate your own plot at Beth Or and'ro help our next communal crop of bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicinals.

Over 20 years ago Beth Orians wer Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth -- Keepers of the Garden of Eden, aspiring to the highest standards of earth ethics.  We can and will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, with proven techniques such as companion planting, insect control, etc.  With today's high prices, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus, it is a part of a healthy lifestyle, providing hands-on education and a social communal experience.

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."

Fair warning!

The Temple office will be closed from Thursday, October 15 through Tuesday, October 12, while Kathy heads up to Philadelphia for a class reunion -- the big one: 50 Years -- and some Philly food and get-togethers with friends who have known each other since first grade.

Cemetery Plots Available at Mt. Nebo

My family has four (4) premium interment plots for sale, located in Mt. Nebo Memorial Gardens Kendall (5900 SW 77 Avenue, Miami).

These four plots, located in a preferred sold-out section, are arranged two and two in a square, head to foot.

The section is beautifully landscaped with shade trees and lush foliage surrounding the plots and is very close to the chapel.

Please call Richard at 954-494-2368 if you are interested.

Read (and decipher!) the Label

Following Dr. Nancy's informative and motivational talk about health choices on Rosh Hashana 2 - I offer the 9 min Video for Beth Orians who seek truth-in-labelling.
Jeff Novick, RD reveals the amazing truth about Food Labels.  A must for anyone who tries to choose their foods intelligently, relying on the printed label.

lady-stretching-white.jpg Yoga, Anyone??

Hey temple members! I want to inform everyone that at Fred Busch's Miami Yoga (located in the JCC) is starting a warm Gentle Flow class. The room will be slightly heated to assist your joints and muscles to warm up and make the yoga safer for your body. This is a beginner class and something I highly recommend if you are looking to get into yoga. The classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 9am. First class free! If you have any questions contact me at
