rosh has High Holidays Tickets

Dear Friends,

High Holy Days are approaching and your fellow members are preparing to do their part to support our congregation's enjoyment of services and accompanying events.

This year, in an effort to have a better estimate of member as well as non-member participation and control over attendance, Temple Beth Or will be issuing High Holy Days tickets to members in good standing and others who have made the previous appropriate arrangements to attend.

In order to receive tickets, no later than September 1, a member in good standing must be 100% current in their payments for the previous (2014-15) year.  Additionally, 50% of their obligation for the current (2015-16) year must be paid along with a commitment, via post-dated check or credit card on file for scheduled payments, to fulfill the remaining 50%.

Tickets will be issued in early September.

If you have any questions please contact the Temple office.

reaching_hands.jpg It's Membership Renewal Time

Membership renewal documents should be in your hands!

The Board of Directors voted recently to make an overall increase of 10% in single and family membership dues.  This is the first increase in a number of years, while our overhead and the cost of maintaining our beautiful home have gradually increased over time.

Your forms will look very different, coming as they are from our Quickbooks accounting system, which we adopted in the last year or so.  We've done much detail work to get all the information and numbers right, but mistakes are occasionally turning up.

First, please review your information for accuracy and notify the office if something isn't right.

Second, please remember that financial consideration does not automatically carry over from year to year.   Should you be interested in requesting an adjustment to your dues, please feel free to contact the office or email directly to Glenn Patron, our Treasurer, at glennpatron@yahoo.com.

We want to work with you to keep our membership strong and hearty!

Welcome back, everyone!

Innovations for Shabbat Services

New time!

Starting Friday, August 7, Kabbalat Shabbat services will begin at 7:30 p.m.   This will be a three month trial period for the months of August, September and October.

Different kind of service!

We will have a farbrengen type of service at the end of every month that will include a light dinner and dessert, seating at tables in the Oneg Room, and liturgy combined with discussion.  The light meal will take the place of Oneg Shabbat.

The first of these will be on July 31, and we're starting off with Pizza Night (vegetarian, of course) with salad and veggies and dessert.  Pat Barron and Kathy Fisler will sponsor this meal, in lieu of their usual Oneg, to remember the date of their adoption of and by the Jewish Community.

High Holiday Welcome Table

We are looking for several volunteers to staff the Welcome Table at this year's High Holiday services.

You'll be fully prepared with all the necessary materials and information to help check in members and guests as they arrive.

Please notify the Temple office at 305-235-1419 or email bethortemple@aol.com if you are able to help out for Rosh Hashanah and/or Yom Kippur.

Chit Chat

Chit Chat meets at Beth Or Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. to read and discuss items in the news or out there in the world.  We concentrate primarily on issues of
Jewish interest.

If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com
.

School Supplies and Socks and Underwear Collection for Chapman Partnership

Our annual collection of school supplies and new socks and underwear for little kids and big kids is underway.  The collection box is in the Oneg Room, ready to receive your contributions, which will be taken to the Chapman Partnership for the Homeless.

These items will go a long way toward giving the kids at Chapman a start on the new school year with things they can call their own.   So start hitting those store sales, and let's fill that box several times over!

Kids' Day at Chapman

We need more Beth Or volunteers to help with crafts activities for the children at Chapman.  If you can join us on Thursday, July 23 from 1 -3 PM it would really help.

Please Email Andrea   andrealor@bellsouth.net ASAP if you can come to Homestead and help with some fun ( but messy ) arts and crafts and cupcake decorating.

Thanks,
Andrea and Ellen

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN
...continues to grow!

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN ...continues to grow!

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

I'm not able to run a Garden Club but a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters could

bring our Garden areas to life - you have the infrastructure; we can do something to start using it.

Will this become The Opportunity to cultivate your own plot at Beth Or or help our next communal crops of:  bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicianals!?

We're also submitting a grant proposal to improve the irrigation for many edibles on campus!

Story:  We are Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth or Keepers of the Garden of Eden.  To start off we will be practical and do whatever works- but we aspire to the highest standards of earth ethics summarized by Organic/Veganic Gardening. We will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, balanced cultivation, companion planting, insect control etc. With today's high prices for quality veggies and herbs, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus it is part of a healthy lifestyle, good education, and a social communal experience.  All those with green (or any color) thumbs are welcome to cultivate with us.

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."

Hey temple members! I want to inform everyone that at Fred Busch's Miami Yoga (located in the JCC) is starting a warm Gentle Flow class. The room will be slightly heated to assist your joints and muscles to warm up and make the yoga safer for your body. This is a beginner class and something I highly recommend if you are looking to get into yoga. The classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 9am. First class free!
