BETH OR YARD SALE 2015

garagesale

The second yard sale brought in an additional $1700, bringing our total to over $7300.  Kudos to the volunteers who worked so hard, and to our community for the great donations.  The third and FINAL sale will be this Sunday, May 31, from 9-12.  We will need as many hands on deck, especially for the clean-up at 12, when we move everything out of the sanctuary.  Please let Marcy or Kathy know if you can give us a hand.

We are not accepting more donations at this point, as our focus is to dispose of what we have, with one exception:  WE ARE ACCEPTING MORE BOOKS!  A vendor purchased all of the books that we had, and is looking to purchase more.  So any books turned in at this point are guaranteed sold.  This includes books of any type.  So, bring in as many books as you can, preferably boxed.  Thank you!

Sat. May 30, Set-Up, 10-12

Sun. May 31, Third and Final Sale, 9-12

Please contact Kathy Fisler , Marcy Prince, or Rowena Wallach if you can help out, or if you have questions.

Let's make this year's sale another wonderful, successful experience.

Recognizing the Henry Family on June 5

Michael and Vicky Henry have made a generous donation to help soldiers who have been severely injured  and their families.  There will be a special program to thank them and Beth Or members are encouraged to attend.  Please read the press release below for details of the donation and the event.

Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m.
Allfloors Carpet One Flooring Gallery 12220 SW 129 Court.

If you are able to attend the event on June 5th, please RSVP to Michael at michael@allfloors.com or leave a message on the temple phone.  Let's try to attend and show Vicki and Michael what an honor it is to know them!!

Miami, Florida  May 21, 2015- On Friday, June 5th at 2:00PM, representatives from the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization begun in memory of a fallen 9/11 firefighter, will pay a special visit to [Michael & Vicki Henry from Allfloors Carpet One, Miami, to personally thank them for their generous support of the Foundation's Building for America's Bravest (BFAB) program.

The BFAB program builds hi-tech "smart homes" for service members returning from war who have been catastrophically injured.

Carpet One Floor & Home, and its manufacturing partner Mohawk, have committed to providing flooring materials and installation for 46 of these "smart homes." Each store's customers are invited to share information about the program with others, and make a personal contribution at the store site. The goal is to collect a donation of $10-or more-from each customer, to ultimately enable the building of at least two more "smart homes."

In recognition of that support, on Friday, June 5th at 2:00PM members of the FDNY (Fire Department of New York City)-acting on their own initiative, as ambassadors of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation-will present a specially-designed shadowbox containing hallowed 9/11 steel from Ground Zero to Michael & Vicki Henry.

"We are truly humbled and honored that the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and members of the FDNY-who were actually at Ground Zero on 9/11 and during its aftermath-are travelling all the way from their home base to visit us and express their gratitude to us," says Michael from Allfloors Carpet One. "In fact, we are the ones who are thankful to them for their dedication and service. That is why we are so thrilled to be part of this impactful program that helps military heroes who have sustained the most devastating injuries."

The oneg committee needs some help.

Most often Kathy does all the shopping and then has to plate the food for the evening service.

It takes less than an hour to do this, but takes Kathy away from her other duties. So if you have  some time on Friday mornings, please call me, Rhoni 305- 253-4155 and  lend a hand. Coordinated efforts will only need your service once a month if we get enough people!

Who Will it Be???

EXCITING NEWS!!

Please mark your calendars for June 12, early services to begin at 7:00 p.m. We will have food for a lite dinner and begin services at 7:30. We will be announcing the recipient of the Honorary Event for this year. The dinner will replace the oneg.

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN ...continues to grow!

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

I'm not able to run a Garden Club but a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters could

bring our Garden areas to life - you have the infrastructure; we can do something to start using it.

Will this become The Opportunity to cultivate your own plot at Beth Or or help our next communal crops of:  bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicianals!?

We're also submitting a grant proposal to improve the irrigation for many edibles on campus!

Story:  We are Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth or Keepers of the Garden of Eden.  To start off we will be practical and do whatever works- but we aspire to the highest standards of earth ethics summarized by Organic/Veganic Gardening. We will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, balanced cultivation, companion planting, insect control etc. With today's high prices for quality veggies and herbs, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus it is part of a healthy lifestyle, good education, and a social communal experience.  All those with green (or any color) thumbs are welcome to cultivate with us.

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."
