BETH OR YARD SALE 2015

garagesale

This past weekend's yard sale culminated a month of effort by our entire Beth Or community - cleaning closets, donating, sending out flyers, moving furniture and racks, sorting, organizing, selling, and cleaning up.  I want to thank everyone who contributed to making this event so successful.  The Yard Sale committee - Kathy, Rowena, Vicki, Amy, Sara, Pat, Jane, Nancy - what a fantastic team!   Our station heads  were amazing.  Volunteers, bless you for coming and doing such a great job.

They say it better than anyone:

"Words sometimes don't describe the wonderful positive feeling it is to be part of our Beth Or community.  Seeing everyone at their best, as part of the team preparing and doing the yard sale is a reality and story we need to keep in our minds - when we all show up that way for each other and our Temple."

"This goes to prove that TBO and its survival is very near and dear to you, and you get to shop to fill up your closets!"

"This is probably one of the most cohesive events that TBO puts on each year."

"Collecting $2, $5, and $10, you don't believe it can add up to that amount.  It is always wonderful working and playing together for a mutual goal.  We have the best community."

This first sale netted $5620!  So, we're off to a great start.  The second sale will be this Sunday, May 24, from 9-1.

We are still collecting donations. preferably before Saturday. Please call ahead.

Set up on Saturday will be announced based on how much we need to organize prior to the sale.  If you haven't participated yet, it's not too late to join the fun.

Continuing schedule:

Sat. May 23, Set-Up, 10-12

Sun. May 24, Second Sale, 9-1

Sat. May 30, Set-Up, 10-12

Sun. May 31, Third and Final Sale, 9-12

Last year we had terrific donations, often from your friends and families. Please spread the word on Facebook or other social media that we accept donations and that tax forms are available.  We have flyers for distribution.

Please contact Kathy Fisler , Marcy Prince, or Rowena Wallach if you can help out, or if you have questions.

Let's make this year's sale another wonderful, successful experience.

The oneg committee needs some help.

Most often Kathy does all the shopping and then has to plate the food for the evening service.

It takes less than an hour to do this, but takes Kathy away from her other duties. So if you have  some time on Friday mornings, please call me, Rhoni 305- 253-4155 and  lend a hand. Coordinated efforts will only need your service once a month if we get enough people!

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN ...continues to grow!

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

I'm not able to run a Garden Club but a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters could

bring our Garden areas to life - you have the infrastructure; we can do something to start using it.

Will this become The Opportunity to cultivate your own plot at Beth Or or help our next communal crops of:  bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicianals!?

We're also submitting a grant proposal to improve the irrigation for many edibles on campus!

Story:  We are Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth or Keepers of the Garden of Eden.  To start off we will be practical and do whatever works- but we aspire to the highest standards of earth ethics summarized by Organic/Veganic Gardening. We will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, balanced cultivation, companion planting, insect control etc. With today's high prices for quality veggies and herbs, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus it is part of a healthy lifestyle, good education, and a social communal experience.  All those with green (or any color) thumbs are welcome to cultivate with us.

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."
