Shabbat Shalom

This Friday, March 13, we will join with other synagogues in North America to observe Shabbat Across America.

As sundown rolls across the continent, Jews will gather in their homes and Temples to welcome Shabbat with their families and friends.

Oneg Shabbat will follow our service.

Thank you, thank you!

Bridge to the Future and Membership Dues Followup

The Bridge to the Future followup team will be communicating with TBO members in the near future.  We're looking to touch base with members whose pledges have open balances, members whose pledges have been completed, and members who have never made a BTF pledge or might be interested in continuing a completed pledge.

We're also working on a similar process to catch up with folks who have outstanding dues and who are not on a scheduled payment plan.

Before we contact anyone -- and the contacts will probably be by mail initially -- we will review each member's history to make sure we have correct information to work with.

A new feature for Beth Or members and Friends

Look to the left and up for the Amazon "Widget".
When you want to order from Amazon, you can click on this box.  From TWABO, the link will take you to the Beth Or website.  If you scroll down, you'll see another Amazon box.  Click "View More Products on Amazon.com" and you'll go straight to the Amazon website.  Log in with your own account, as you normally do.  Temple Beth Or, as a newly registered "Amazon Associate," will receive a percentage of your purchase price at
no additional cost to you, because you accessed Amazon via the Widget.

If you're not reading TWABO when you're ready to shop, just go to the Temple's website,
and use the Amazon Widget from there.

Chit Chat

Jewish interest.

The Weekend That Was!

And what a weekend, full of events bringing Beth Or members and friends together!

On Friday evening,  Shirley Pollack received a standing ovation from the standing-room-only congregation at Friday night services. Her students of all ages thanked her for her teaching and kindness and the lasting friendships they have made. group-school-project.jpg

Thanks to the inspiration of Sara Horowitz , Mark and Jeff K. led a wonderful Purim service. A committee of Irene, Sara, Andrea, Amy, Annette, April, Vicky H., Bette, Ellen H., Ilene H., Marti,  and Rose, Celia, and Kathy put on a gastronomical, waist-expanding and delicious oneg.   Thom Elliott captured every moment for posterity.  Thank you one and all for celebrating Purim and one dynamite lady at TBO!!!

We gathered again Saturday morning for Torah Study with Rabbi Mark, where it's not only fun to argue both the broad strokes and details, but it's just what we're supposed to do!

The Lighthouse Cafe featured Zak Shaffer, a new performer for our music and mini-theatre venue.

Sunday brought uncertain weather, but even with a move to indoor spaces, Marcy Prince and her undaunted crew launched the first, and we hope annual, Spring Garden Festival.   Dance, yoga, fitness, photo portraits, artists and vendors, music and -- guess what -- more food!  Omelets and French Toast made to order by Sara and her helpers were the hit of the day.  Endless thanks to all who put the event together and who attended.

Finally, Red Tent met Sunday

afternoon to discuss Madeleine Albright's book, Prague Winter.   books

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN ...continues to grow!

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

I'm not able to run a Garden Club but a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters could

bring our Garden areas to life - you have the infrastructure; we can do something to start using it.

Will this become The Opportunity to cultivate your own plot at Beth Or or help our next communal crops of:  bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicianals!?

We're also submitting a grant proposal to improve the irrigation for many edibles on campus!

Story:  We are Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth or Keepers of the Garden of Eden.  To start off we will be practical and do whatever works- but we aspire to the highest standards of earth ethics summarized by Organic/Veganic Gardening. We will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, balanced cultivation, companion planting, insect control etc. With today's high prices for quality veggies and herbs, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus it is part of a healthy lifestyle, good education, and a social communal experience.  All those with green (or any color) thumbs are welcome to cultivate with us.

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."
