A new feature for Beth Or members and Friends

Look to the left and up for the Amazon "Widget".
When you want to order from Amazon, you can click on this box.  From TWABO, the link will take you to the Beth Or website.  If you scroll down, you'll see another Amazon box.  Click "View More Products on Amazon.com" and you'll go straight to the Amazon website.  Log in with your own account, as you normally do.  Temple Beth Or, as a newly registered "Amazon Associate," will receive a percentage of your purchase price at
no additional cost to you, because you accessed Amazon via the Widget.

If you're not reading TWABO when you're ready to shop, just go to the Temple's website,
and use the Amazon Widget from there.

Bridge to the Future Followup

The Bridge to the Future followup team will be communicating with TBO members in the near future.  We're looking to touch base with members whose pledges have open balances, members whose pledges have been completed, and members who have never made a BTF pledge or might be interested in continuing a completed pledge.

Before we contact anyone -- and the contacts will probably be by mail initially -- we will review each BTF history to make sure we have correct information to work with.

Chit Chat

Chit Chat meets at Beth Or Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. to read and discuss items in the news or out there in the world.  We concentrate primarily on issues of
Jewish interest.

If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com
.

Positive Psychology 2 continues...
   Wellbeing and Jewish Fundamentals

An 8-week open event facilitated by Dr. Nancy Kirsner.  All are welcome!
Positive Psychology has ushered in an
era of well being and happiness by focusing on what works and is strong in you.
Research and reality teaches us that we are at our best when we live in our strengths and in relationships.  Our Jewish fundamentals and Positive Psychology converge, creating a rich context of meaning, purpose and pleasure -- the main ingredients of Happiness and Wellbeing.

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN
...continues to grow!
gardening-items.jpg

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

Certified Florida Master Gardeners Wilfredo and Candy Candelaria promise support for
Beth Or's Organic Garden and Campus Edibles Program, 2015.
They offer a Seminar on Garden Veggies.
a) Most Green Thumb congregants could use more practical training:
b) what about seasonal variations
b) wisely allocate volunteer time or tend your own plot
c) general education for your appreciation and application of gardening skills
d) Temple plans to convert some decorative space into HERBS/MEDICINALS

I'm not able to run a Garden Club but a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters could
bring our Garden areas to life - you have the infrastructure; we can do something to start using it.

Help pick a date for this Seminar on Garden Veggies - - one Sunday afternoon in the coming weeks?
This wont happen unless you want it to, a few voices can be heard in the silence we now have around our Gommunity Garden.
I'm sure the Candelaria's will make their presentation worthwhile for you in our Lighthouse Cafe.

Will this become The Opportunity to cultivate your own plot at Beth Or or help our next communal crops of:  bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicianals!?

We're also submitting a grant proposal to improve the irrigation for many edibles on campus!

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."

Story:  We are Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth or Keepers of the Garden of Eden.  To start off we will be practical and do whatever works- but we aspire to the highest standards of earth ethics summarized by Organic/Veganic Gardening. We will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, balanced cultivation, companion planting, insect control etc. With today's high prices for quality veggies and herbs, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus it is part of a healthy lifestyle, good education, and a social communal experience.  All those with green (or any color) thumbs are welcome to cultivate with us.

Limmud Miami Programs

Sunday, February 22, 2015

Limmud Miami offers an amazing range -- way too many to list here -- of speakers and subjects at the Kovens Conference Center, FIU Biscayne Bay Campus, 3000 NE 151  Street, North Miami Beach. For a complete schedule and registration information, check out the website below and see what piques your curiosity.  From the homepage, select the Register tab, and Schedule 2015 from the dropdown.

From the Limmud website ( www.limmudmiami.org )

"Limmud is an internationally popular festival of Jewish life and learning incorporating lectures, workshops, performances, panels, text-study sessions, film, meditation, discussions, exhibits, and performances. Limmud conferences maintain broad appeal within a diverse community.  One writer describes, "Limmud conference [is] a creative, collective learning experience that falls somewhere between Burning Man and yeshiva... in 50 communities around the world, from Moscow to Sydney to Rio and the Galil."

Writers to Speak at MDC Campuses

Leah Roth will discuss her forthcoming memoir,
My Eyes Looking Back at Me, which examines her experiences in the Holocaust and after.  As an observant Jew, Roth struggled not only to survive the Holocaust and Auschwitz but struggled to keep her religious identity in the face of evil.  Her story spans 90 years and moves from Europe, to Israel, and finally to Miami.  The discussion will take place

at 11:15 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Homestead Campus, 500 College Terr.,

Building F, Room 222.

Carla McClafferty, an author, freelance writer and speaker, will discuss her book,
In Defiance of Hitler: The Secret Mission of Varion Fry, which highlights the life of Fry, an American journalist in Vichy, France from 1940-41. He ran an underground network that saved up to 4,000 Jewish and anti-Nazi artists, intellectuals, writers, and political dissidents. He did so in defiance of not only Hitler, but the Vichy Regime and the U.S. State Department. He is one of only three Americans to be awarded Yad Vashem's Righteous Among the Nations honor. The discussion will be held at 9:50 a.m.,
on Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Kendall Campus, 11011 S.W. 104 St.

MDC Humanities & Social Sciences Chairperson Randy Kaufman at 305-237-5267.
