A new feature for Beth Or members and Friends

Look to the left and up for the Amazon "Widget".
When you want to order from Amazon, you can click on this box.  From TWABO, the link will take you to the Beth Or website.  If you scroll down, you'll see another Amazon box.  Click "View More Products on Amazon.com" and you'll go straight to the Amazon website.  Log in with your own account, as you normally do.  Temple Beth Or, as a newly registered "Amazon Associate," will receive a percentage of your purchase price at
no additional cost to you, because you accessed Amazon via the Widget.

If you're not reading TWABO when you're ready to shop, just go to the Temple's website,
and use the Amazon Widget from there.

Bridge to the Future Followup

The Bridge to the Future followup team will be communicating with TBO members in the near future.  We're looking to touch base with members whose pledges have open balances, members whose pledges have been completed, and members who have never made a BTF pledge or might be interested in continuing a completed pledge.

Before we contact anyone -- and the contacts will probably be by mail initially -- we will review each BTF history to make sure we have correct information to work with.

Chit Chat

Chit Chat meets at Beth Or Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. to read and discuss items in the news or out there in the world.  We concentrate primarily on issues of
Jewish interest.

If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com
.

Positive Psychology 2 continues...

Positive Psychology has ushered in an

                          -- Pete Seeger

Mark also lectures around the country and teaches classes on many subjects from Israeli Pioneer music to Klezmer, to Jewish humor.

Please pass the word around to anyone you know who might enjoy this musical theme.  It should be an interesting and enjoyable night.

We hope you'll join us!

Seats are $20 per person, and we'll be offering free coffee, tea, and light snacks.

Call 305-235-1419 to reserve or email bethortemple@aol.com

book Red Tent Women's Reading Group

The Red Tent will gather at the home of April Miller at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, to discuss Whoopi Goldberg's book, "Is It Just Me?  Or Is It Nuts Out There?" Ms. Goldberg offers a candid and most refreshing take on modern-day manners (or lack thereof).

Directions to April's house will be sent to RT members via email.

Honoring Shirley Pollak at March 6 Shabbat Service

Please join us for services March 6 at 7 p.m. (note earlier starting time), as we acknowledge Shirley Pollak for her many years of mentoring and teaching our B'nai Mitzvoth students.

In addition, we will be celebrating Purim.  This promises to be a celebration of Purim like none other, with many of Shirley's students in attendance. A celebration oneg put on by many of our members will follow.  Mark your calendars.

SPRING GARDEN FESTIVAL!

            SAVE THE DATE!!

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN
...continues to grow!
gardening-items.jpg

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

Certified Florida Master Gardeners Wilfredo and Candy Candelaria promise support for
Beth Or's Organic Garden and Campus Edibles Program, 2015.
They offer a Seminar on Garden Veggies.
a) Most Green Thumb congregants could use more practical training:
b) what about seasonal variations
b) wisely allocate volunteer time or tend your own plot
c) general education for your appreciation and application of gardening skills
d) Temple plans to convert some decorative space into HERBS/MEDICINALS

I'm not able to run a Garden Club but a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters could
bring our Garden areas to life - you have the infrastructure; we can do something to start using it.

Help pick a date for this Seminar on Garden Veggies - - one Sunday afternoon in the coming weeks?
This wont happen unless you want it to, a few voices can be heard in the silence we now have around our Gommunity Garden.
I'm sure the Candelaria's will make their presentation worthwhile for you in our Lighthouse Cafe.

Will this become The Opportunity to cultivate your own plot at Beth Or or help our next communal crops of:  bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicianals!?

We're also submitting a grant proposal to improve the irrigation for many edibles on campus!

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."

Story:  We are Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth or Keepers of the Garden of Eden.  To start off we will be practical and do whatever works- but we aspire to the highest standards of earth ethics summarized by Organic/Veganic Gardening. We will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, balanced cultivation, companion planting, insect control etc. With today's high prices for quality veggies and herbs, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus it is part of a healthy lifestyle, good education, and a social communal experience.  All those with green (or any color) thumbs are welcome to cultivate with us.
