Adult Education Meeting
 books-apple-icon.jpg

If you are interested in having input in adult education classes for the coming year, we are having a meeting at the Temple this Thursday, July 24th at 7:30 PM.

If you cannot attend, please email Amy Lomaskin at amylo@aol.com

with your interests and ownership of any classes/seminars that meet your fancy.  This cannot be done without YOU!

Calendar Planning, Part II

Very important meeting
open to the membership.

Calendar Planning Meeting, Sunday,

July 27, at 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Please join us for this year's first programming meeting and a light brunch (a little bird mentioned blintzes!) Our intention will be the planning of the upcoming year in a creative and cooperative fashion, making sure that we provide a reasonable, educational and enjoyable number of events (without over-committing our resources).  Let's map out the holidays, special social events, adult education seminars/classes, coffeehouses, movies, cooking classes and retreats/day trips, etc.

Please bring your dreams and imagination, along with a willingness to take ownership of the events that interest you.  Know that ownership doesn't necessarily mean running the event; you can recruit and/or delegate to make something happen.

Of course, please invite any other interested friends/members. An RSVP to Jeff Kaminsky is appreciated.

Looking forward to a productive and exciting year!

welcome new members Membership Open House Coming Up!

Beth Or will be hosting  a membership open house and light brunch on Sunday, September 7th, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

We are attempting  to attract some new members before the holidays.   Although we have not hosted a brunch in several years, I did remember that many of you came to help host and or  provide some food for the past  brunches. Some of the items we will need are, bagels, cream cheese, egg salad,  fruit  and some baked goods. Beth Or will purchase nova . Any other food donations you would like to make are appreciated ,as well.

Please contact April Miller if you can attend and or help.

Ads will be placed prior to the function.    In addition, we would like to have the following groups represented and perhaps a short presentation made for each. Below are just a few suggestions. Please let us know if you can attend, what you can help with and if you are willing to make a short presentation in a particular area.

We will prepare an announcement for TWABO as well.

Thank you very much in advance.

From Rhoni Tannebaum, for the Oneg Shabbat Committee: cornucopia-flowers.jpg

I would like to invite you to join the Oneg Committee for TBO. The good part of this committee is that  WE NEVER HAVE MEETINGS! All of our tasks will be conducted by phone and you will only need to occasionally come to TBO to set up and break down the onegs. Onegs prior to Saturday or Sunday events will have Marina present to help, unless otherwise specified by the person putting on the oneg.

Kathy will send me a list of members and the date they have chosen to pay for the oneg. They have the choice of providing food or we can shop for them.

If you are available, you can e mail me and I will schedule you for the oneg. We can also work in pairs, if someone has to leave early another can clean up.

I am trying to make this as easy as possible on everyone, especially Kathy who has been providing the onegs for us, and rarely asks for help. This has the potential to be

a great, fun committee and even bring up the attendance at services!

Weight Watchers at Beth Or
Weight Watchers continues its meeting series on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. at Beth Or.

New members should arrive at about 9:45 and enter by the back door at the top of the ramp.

For more information, please contact Ilien Hechtman at ilienh@aol.com

Chit Chat

Something New This Way Comes!
We are initiating occasional Sunday morning
Chit Chat with the Rabbi, and the first one will be on Sunday, August 24, at 10:30 a.m.  We'll have a prepared discussion topic, so join us for a lively talk and debate.

Our regular Chit Chat meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 at the Temple.

We've picked up several interesting articles from reputable sources -- BBC News and the New York Times among them -- and we're ready to launch into topics of local, national and international interest with a distinctly Jewish approach.  We talk about cultural, legal, educational, social, political, religious and secular subjects, with a text usually from the media to start us off.

There's always room for more, so please don't hesitate.  If you're available, so are we.
If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com.

Helping out Holocaust Survivors

This appeal comes from Vicki Brail, who was contacted by a Bonnie Schwartzman, Director of the Kosher Food Bank, Jewish Community Services of South Florida.

Many JCS clients are in need of towels and linens. They do not mind if they are very gently used and in good condition.

If you have some extra towels or sheets and are cleaning out your closets this summer, please feel free to drop them at the JCS Kosher Food bank, Bet Shira Congregation or contact Eileen Far at 305-804-3771 and we will distribute them to these seniors in need.

House, Garden and Grounds News   gardening-items.jpg

H&G follows the 'Permaculture' trend towards Edible landscapes. After creating a Decorative island at the north end of our sidewalk we installed BANANA ISLAND behind the Dougie Garden with 6 different banana varieties for the congregation.  Next is PAPAYA ISLAND, under construction in the NE corner behind the huge Magen David bench.

Our old Irrigation System is being fixed- one sprinkler at a time.  More asphalt patches for potholes and breaks.  Ramp and exterior Stairways due for repainting with Skidproof terra cotta paint.  Watch transformation of Oneg Room Exit Door, about to get a 'makeover!'  PS. White ingress-egress driveway arrows garnered positive feedback- thanks!

Get Happy!
An invitation from Arlene Miller

We invite any of our members and friends to join us for this 21 day Spiritual and Meditative Journey offered by Deepak Chopra and Oprah. With the oncoming season of deep reflection for the Jewish people, this would be a ideal opportunity to connect with the energy of the Universe ,and to whatever God you are committed to.

The start date is August 11th , so interested enrolees should reserve your space in the free series as soon as possible.

We would like to develop a "reflection group" to meet at the Temple on a scheduled basis to process and discuss the impact of the program in our personal lives and our search for more expansive living or healing.  If you would like to come together with other fellow travelers on the spiritual journey, and share the journey in a loving way, send an email to or call the Temple office.  Tell us your best way to be contacted , phone, email. cell, etc., and your preference for a daytime or evening gathering.  Arlene Miller will get back to you regarding scheduling and further details .

Hope you and friends who have an interest in furthering spiritual development will join so that we can develop a really loving and supportive harmonious community!

Information can be found at

They have not released the full program design and time yet. It will be audio/video  session, I think, each day for 2l days. Usually if you can't make the presentation time, there will be a replay later in the day, so everyone should be able to keep up. Once you sign up for the free program, they will send you an email with further instructions.

Shalom...In Peace and Harmony for the World!

Arlene Miller

PS. I need a few volunteers to help me with the program. Will you sign up to help, please!
