The B'not Mitzvah Class of June 2014
wishes to thank so many people, we can't
possibly list everyone!

Members, friends and families came to celebrate with us last Saturday, watched and listened, sang with us, helped with cooking and baking, fetching and carrying, setting up and mopping up, and making the B'not Mitzvah service one to remember.

Many, many thanks to everyone, but special acknowledgments to Rabbi Mark, Jeff Kaminsky, and Shirley Pollak for teaching, encouraging, and listening to our hesitant Hebrew, in preparation for our big day!

TBO Day of Fun and Games at Chapman Partnership in Homestead

Saturday, July 19, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

What's needed?
  • Volunteers can contact Andrea Loring at andrealor@bellsouth.net to get further information and help with the event
  • Balls of yarn!  We need about half a dozen or so balls of yarn -- not skeins.   If you have some yarn to spare, please drop it off at the Temple in the next week or so.

The donation boxes for the annual drives for school supplies and socks and underwear are in the Oneg Room, ready to accept goodies, all of which will be funneled through to the Chapman Partnership.

We are also looking for magazines of interest to guys: sports, news, just not girl-stuff!

"Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.  You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve.  You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love."  Martin Luther King, Jr.

Weight Watchers Continues at Beth Or
Weight Watchers continues its meeting series on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. at Beth Or.

New members should arrive at about 9:45 and enter by the back door at the top of the ramp.

Please note that there will be no meeting on Thursday, July 3.

For more information, please contact Ilien Hechtman at ilienh@aol.com

Chit Chat

Chit Chat meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 at the Temple.

We've picked up several interesting articles from reputable sources -- BBC News and the New York Times among them -- and we're ready to launch into topics of local, national and international interest with a distinctly Jewish approach.  We talk about cultural, legal, educational, social, political, religious and secular subjects, with a text usually from the media to start us off.

There's always room for more, so please don't hesitate.  If you're available, so are we.
If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com.

Helping out Holocaust Survivors

This appeal comes from Vicki Brail, who was contacted by a Bonnie Schwartzman, Director of the Kosher Food Bank, Jewish Community Services of South Florida.

Many JCS clients are in need of towels and linens. They do not mind if they are very gently used and in good condition.

If you have some extra towels or sheets and are cleaning out your closets this summer, please feel free to drop them at the JCS Kosher Food bank, Bet Shira Congregation or contact Eileen Far at 305-804-3771 and we will distribute them to these seniors in need.

House, Garden and Grounds News   gardening-items.jpg

H&G follows the 'Permaculture' trend towards Edible landscapes. After creating a Decorative island at the north end of our sidewalk we installed BANANA ISLAND behind the Dougie Garden with 6 different banana varieties for the congregation.  Next is PAPAYA ISLAND, under construction in the NE corner behind the huge Magen David bench.

Our old Irrigation System is being fixed- one sprinkler at a time.  More asphalt patches for potholes and breaks.  Ramp and exterior Stairways due for repainting with Skidproof terra cotta paint.  Watch transformation of Oneg Room Exit Door, about to get a 'makeover!'  PS. White ingress-egress driveway arrows garnered positive feedback- thanks!

Mango Season is here!

Mangos are falling out of the sky!

The very ripe fruit is dropping from the trees, and your loyal TWABO editor is racing the critters to get to the mangos before any little teeth or beaks can take bites out of them!

Mangos will be in a basket on one of the Oneg Room tables for the duration of the season.  Enjoy!

Yard Sale Thank You

Temple Beth Or received the following letter of appreciation for our donation of unsold goods from our recent garage sale.  Its wonderful to know that the items we contributed will be put to good use by homeless individuals and families actively engaged in trying to rebuild their lives.

"Please accept a sincere 'Thank You' on behalf of the staff and residents of Chapman Partnership.  The generous in-kind contribution of clothing, books, toys and household goods for the residents of our Center has certainly been a source of encouragement.

Thank you again and we look forward to your continued support in the future.

Best regards,

Camp JRF

Dear Friends,

We are happy to share information with you about our two upcoming
. Scheduled for Sunday, July 6 and Sunday, July 20, these programs will be a great opportunity for potential campers and families to experience all the fun of Camp ... in just a few short hours!

Please share this information with families whose entering second through fifth graders would thrive at Camp JRF. Our experience shows that rabbis, cantors, and educators who reach out directly to individual families to say "This camp is for you!" are most successful at getting new kids to Camp. And research has proven that kids who go to Jewish summer camp are significantly more likely than their peers to feel a deep and lifelong connection to the Jewish community. Your outreach to a family today will have a significant positive impact for years to come!

Thanks, in advance, for helping to get the word out about this exciting opportunity,

Who's got room for Cooper?

Cooper, a chihuahua mix, needs a foster home for 3 months while his Mom is visiting family in Nevada.

Cooper is an older dog who is extremely low-maintenance and just needs companionship.  We weren't able to include the photo here, but it can be forwarded to anyone who's interested.  He looks like a real sweetie!

Any medical needs would be taken care of.  If there is anyone in the Temple who would like to foster him, please have them contact Amy Lomaskin at 305-253-1768 or amylo@aol.com.
