Chit Chat

Chit Chat meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 at the Temple.

We've picked up several interesting articles from reputable sources -- BBC News and the New York Times among them -- and we're ready to launch into topics of local, national and international interest with a distinctly Jewish approach.  We talk about cultural, legal, educational, social, political, religious and secular subjects, with a text usually from the media to start us off.

Now that we are back at the Temple, there's always room for one more, so please don't hesitate.  If you're available, so are we.
If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com.

Passover Approaches!

Passover is a time to share our Seder meal with our friends, family and community. If you need a place to go for the 1st Seder or would like to host a single person or couple in your home, please let Vicki Brail know as soon as possible.  Email

VBrecovery@aol.com

You may also contact the Temple at 305-235-1419 or email

Responses to the Temple will be forwarded to Vicki.

For the last several years as we have been offering this to our Beth Or community, we have asked that hosts feel free to tell me anyone they feel will not be a good fit to be at a Seder with them and their family. It is STRICTLY confidential. Please be comfortable taking advantage of this option if you are hesitating in volunteering to host.

Be aware that there are no guarantees for placement for everyone nor everyone who volunteers will have guests. We do the best we can to ensure everyone has a wonderful Seder experience.

Don't want to add more cooking to yo
ur Passover planning time?  How about pizza, pasta, salad and rolls (garlic or not!), and maybe a Farbrengen on Friday, April 11?

Second Night of Passover
haggadah

You are invited to our Community Seder Table

For the Second Night of Passover

Tuesday,  April 15th at 6:00 pm. at Temple Beth Or.

Rabbi Mark Kram will lead the Seder, recounting the story of our ancestors' journey from slavery to freedom, and celebrating the ritual of our foremothers and forefathers, connecting us to them and to all modern Jews throughout the world.

This Seder will be a potluck event, with vegetarian, dairy and fish dishes welcome.  Please bring your own wine (and cushions), and kindly do not bring leavened goods (e.g. yeast breads, crackers, flour based baked goods ) to the Seder.  The donation for the seder for paper goods, etc., is $5 per person.

Please R.S.V.P. to Kathy and tell her what you will be bringing.  Your timely, considerate reply will assist our planning and setup, and alleviate our stress.   Remember, seating is limited.  Our contact info:  (305) 235-1419 or email

Comedy (or Drama) in April

We have access to a nice collection of 5 one act comedy plays - "Are You Jewish" by Bruce J. Bloom.   Janet Raskin will come and facilitate the reading on Thursday, April 3rd 7:30pm.

So please RSVP to either kaminskyjeff-bethor@yahoo.com  by Monday about the play reading.  And also remember to invite a friend.

Hope to see you there!

Red Tent Women's Reading Group

Please note that the next two meetings are scheduled for the first Sunday in the month instead of the second Sunday.  April is because of Passover and May because of Mother's Day.  The April book is
The Memory of Running.  The meeting will take place at 1:00 p.m. this Sunday, April 5, at Annette Katz' home.sunset-bike-silhouette.jpg

As hard as it is to believe, it is time to begin choosing books for next year.  If you have a book to suggest, you can send the name and author to Bette Spector or to the TBO office to have it forwarded to Bette.

Please be sure you have read the book.  Also, at the April meeting we can take a little time for you to tell about a book you would like to nominate.

Garden and Grounds News

New: BANANA ISLAND, cultivating 5 species of edible bananas beside the Dougie Garden.

Notice we'll have lot's of mulch and compost to feed the transplanted young trees to insure a healthy crop of delicious fruit in the coming years.

Beth Or Power!

A small group of Beth Or members met over the weekend to brainstorm the idea of identifying a community service project for the Temple which would utilize the many skills and talents of our members to address a pressing community problem.

volunteers2_hdr.jpg
We have identified several potential agencies and will investigate each of them during the next two weeks.  If you are aware of a specific agency or non-profit organization that is a possible fit for us, we will look into this one as well.

Please send Andrea Loring the name of the agency or organization with contact information if possible.  (Please -- no general areas of interest -- specific groups only.)

Once we identify programs that appear to be a good fit for Beth Or, we will present them to the membership to prioritize.

Andrea can be reached by email at
