To the Beth Or Community:

A huge THANK YOU

to the Beth Or Community for their support of our Purim celebration weekend! The sanctuary rocked with the disco night and the costumes were a sight to behold!

Michael Henry's honorary event was over the top with love from the community, Brett Segal Band and the delicious catering of Fare to Remember.

The silent auction raised $3200!. Much appreciation to all and pats on the back to the hard working committee.

And...big-time thanks to Dr.
    Marvin Dunn

for a presentation that could have gone on for hours, with all eyes rivited to the visuals and ears perked for stories historical and personal.

Be it noted that the Chit-Chat group, on the following Wednesday morning, couldn't stay on its planned topic and spent most of the morning reviewing and discussing Dr. Dunn's message to the community.

Thanks to you, Andrea, for persuading Marvin to do this special presentation for Beth Or.

sepia_stacked_hands.jpg While We're Saying Thanks

... we send a thank you to all of you who volunteered for Super Sunday and represented Beth Or.  We appreciate your efforts!

Chit Chat at Beth Or

Chit Chat meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 at the Temple.

We've picked up several interesting articles from reputable sources -- BBC News and the New York Times among them -- and we're ready to launch into topics of local, national and international interest with a distinctly Jewish approach.  We talk about cultural, legal, educational, social, political, religious and secular subjects, with a text usually from the media to start us off.

Now that we are back at the Temple, there's always room for one more, so please don't hesitate.  If you're available, so are we.
If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com.

Passover Approaches!

Passover is a time to share our Seder meal with our friends, family and community. If you need a place to go for the 1st Seder or would like to host a single person or couple in your home, please let Vicki Brail know as soon as possible.  Email

VBrecovery@aol.com

You may also contact the Temple at 305-235-1419 or email

Responses to the Temple will be forwarded to Vicki.

For the last several years as we have been offering this to our Beth Or community, we have asked that hosts feel free to tell me anyone they feel will not be a good fit to be at a Seder with them and their family. It is STRICTLY confidential. Please be comfortable taking advantage of this option if you are hesitating in volunteering to host.

Be aware that there are no guarantees for placement for everyone nor everyone who volunteers will have guests. We do the best we can to ensure everyone has a wonderful Seder experience.

Want the Song Lyrics?

Here's the tribute song Michael wrote and performed Saturday evening...

House Of Light

Fed up with the shuls up on the avenue -

Monuments to the vain and wealth possessed

One hot Friday night we thought we'd check out the House of Light

You never know what fate will lead you to

Walked into the room and felt the groove

People arm in arm singin' & swayin' to the Barechu

We paid our dues and here's the twist

They said, "Now you're a Reconstructionist", whatever that is...

The Maestro of the choir left, I stepped in with a sigh -

Somehow they survived my stubborn ways

I never been no saint but tonight I hope there's no complaint

Here's whatcha get for the Fifty Bucks you paid

Look out now, here comes Bette Spector

A southern belle refugee from the Alabama sector

Bette & Rose hang on every word -

Morris hanging on the chair with his eyes closed

Sleepin', and I hope he don't fall off

Ned & Rhoni T. their doorbell sound like a Christmas tree -

I was baffled 'til it dawned, "Oh Tannenbaum"

Holly runs the house supervised by the purple clowns -

Rhoni's meeting-catered fare legendary

Professor Emerson & Curly Jane, I bet their home's got

Everything in place even after hit by a hurricane

The House of Light's got more like this

You too can be a Reconstructionist

Andrea 'n Bette paid for Shirley Pollack to get some play

And don't you know my kids adore that gal

To learn their Torah chant, if I said practice they would rant

Sometimes I thought they loved her more than me

Marcy Prince is always on the run - with all the

Flowers in the garden, man

The girl's got two green thumbs

You might be on her Yard Sale list

She's a Landscape Reconstructionist

Well for what? It's Worth, Patricia floats into this verse, she said,

"Better write me in your song today"!

Testy though it seemed, you know Patricia, she's the Queen

Of balancing the chaos with Feng Shiui

Mel & Amy jumped into the fray

On the board, every program, even come to the Lighthouse Café

They never had so much fun as this

They're so glad to be a Reconstructionist

Now you can dance, you can twist

Don't matter now, you're a Reconstructionist

And I don't know why more people don't come by

Sometimes I just want to hang my head and cry; Oy-mein

Choir's Song for Michael

Michael is the leader of the Beth Or Choir.
Not quite the finest singers in the land.
At our first rehearsal he just thinks 'OY VEY.'
Wondering how he'll ever fix this sorry band.

He leads the songs, he sings the songs, he writes the songs - MAN!
Michael leads the Beth Or Choir.

He wants us to improve with every passing year.
Knowing we have trouble with the beat.
Tells us to sing softly so we'll stay on pitch
He's not happy 'til we blend and make it sweet.

He leads the songs, he sings the songs, he writes the songs - MAN!
Michael leads the Beth Or Choir.
Michael's never happy with the tunes we've got.
Always got a new one in his head.
Wakes up 4 AM with a melody
While Vicki cries and tries to get him back to bed.

And all along he is in his world of song - Di di di
He has a gift that he brings to all. Dididididi. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Michael and Samantha are an awesome pair.
When they sing the tears fall to the floor.
The Lighthouse Café is a great success.
Bringing fun and fine musicians to Beth Or.

And all along he is in his world of song - Di di di
He has a gift that he brings to all. Dididididi. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Finally the big day - Rosh Hashanah - comes!
Christ the King is ready for the show.
The choir's sound and spirit blow the crowd away
And on Michael's face there is a blissful glow.

He leads the songs, he sings the songs, he writes the songs - MAN!
Michael leads the Beth Or Choir.

Miami Holocaust Museum Visit

On Sunday, March 30, 2014,

The ladies of the Adult B'not Mitzvah class have scheduled a trip to the Holocaust Museum on Miami Beach as part of their curriculum,  and members of the congregation are cordially invited to join in.

We are looking into costs and availability of group transportation, as well as a survivor docent to guide our group, and we will publish those details as soon as we have them.  Right now, we'd like to find out how many members and friends would be interested in making the trip.  We'll probably leave here around mid-morning, and return in the early afternoon.

Please call or email the Temple:  305-235-1419 or bethortemple@aol.com
to be placed on the list.
