Kiddush and Campfires!

Join your Beth Or friends and families at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening for
Kiddush and Motzi in the chickee.

We'll have pizza, salads, sandwiches, coffee and soft drinks.  Covered dishes are welcome
-- Beth Or Kosher, of course --
but are not required.

Then we will light a campfire and have all the fixings for S'Mores and toasted marshmallows to accompany the welcoming of Shabbat with Rabbi Mark leading us in music and stories,
starting at about 7:15.

Seating will be available in the chickee,
but please feel free to bring your own
folding chairs if you prefer.

Parents and grandparents, bring the kids and grandkids for a Family Shabbat!

Please email us at bethortemple@aol.com or phone the Temple (305) 235-1419 to let us know if you plan to be there, so we can get an idea of how much food and drink we will need -- thanks!

TBO Office Closed December 25

Your loyal Office Administrator is joining the ranks of those volunteering with one of the GMJF projects happening on this day.  She'll be knitting baby hats for donation to local children's facilities and hospitals.  Where will you be?

The office will re-open Thursday, December 26, and we'll be getting ready for our Kiddush and Campfire Shabbat this Friday evening.

Progressive Dinner

italain-food-items.jpg

Invitations and response forms for the Progressive Dinner have been sent out, and we need your responses!

Our 2014 Progressive Dinner will be extra special. We will be beginning and ending our evening in the same place, thanks to the generosity of Ilien and Keith Hechtman. We will initially gather at the Hechtman home for appetizers to get the evening off to a great start.

Once the guests leave the Hechtmans, they will head to their assigned host house.  Hosts are responsible to serve a salad, main dish with some side dishes, bread, and something to drink.  Temple Beth Or provides each host house with two bottles of wine -- one red and one white.

You and your guests eat and talk for a couple of hours and leave to return back the Hechtman home by 10 p.m. for the dessert portion of the night.  It's a great way to rekindle old friendships and make new ones.

Irene and I do all the behind the scenes arrangement of assigning folks to the houses and so forth.  As an added benefit, guest hosts are not required to pay the fee for the dinner.

It's great fun and we hope you'll consider hosting.

Please let us know as soon as possible whether you'll be able to be a host. Feel free to respond by email to annette075@aol.com or you can call either Irene or me if you have any questions.  We look forward to hearing from you. Please contact one of us as soon as possible so we can properly plan the dinner.

Best,

Annette & Irene

Chit Chat at Beth Or is on hiatus till the New Year

Chit Chat usually meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 at the Temple.

However, we will suspend meetings over this busy season and resume on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

This discussion group addresses topics of local, national and international interest with a distinctly Jewish approach.  We talk about cultural, legal, educational, social, political, religious and secular subjects, with a text usually from the media to start us off.

Now that we are back at the Temple, there's always room for one more, so please don't hesitate.  If you're available, so are we.
If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com.

Hurricane Season is Over! cornucopia-flowers.jpg

Do you need to clear out the canned items you've been saving all season "just in case"?

It's easy.  Just bring canned, unopened packaged food items, and any other non-perishable goodies to Beth Or, and we'll see that they get to the appropriate places: shelters, food banks, organizations that help homeless people.

And while we're at it, don't forget the critters!  We can easily take and distribute pet food to a most worthy organization that fosters and re-homes pets whose owners have become ill, severely disabled, or passed on.
