Announcing a Successful New Beth Or Program - Jewish Play Reading!!

Thursday, December 12, 7:30 p.m.
Teacher and actress Janet Raskin has begun a new program of Jewish play reading for thespians and novices.

Interested participants should call the Temple and let us know you plan to attend.  Just leave a voicemail at 305-235-1419, please or email at bethortemple@aol.com

This is a participatory event where everyone who comes will get one part to play from a collection of short plays.  Participants will get a chance to read through and then do their reading for the group.

Stay tuned for more information on the next collection of plays.

Janet Raskin earned her MFA in Acting at the University of Central Florida.  She has taught acting for stage and camera at Miami-Dade College North and Valencia College in Orlando.  Her credits include Emily Dickinson in "The Belle of Amherst" performed at Temple Beth Or in April and October of this year.  She has also played Yente in "Fiddler on the Roof" and Amanda in "The Glass Menagerie."  In 2013, Janet earned a certificate of completion from the Michael Chekhov Assocation in psycho-physical principles of acting.   And for those of you not aware, Janet is Carol Kaminsky's (twin) sister.

torah-scroll-sm.jpg Global Day of Jewish Learning -- Beth Or Style!

Sunday, November 24, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

The Global Day of Jewish Learning brings Jewish people together once a year to celebrate our shared Jewish text through community based learning.

The guiding values of the day are: fostering Jewish unity, empowering individuals through increased Jewish knowledge, and creating meaningful shared experiences.

This year's theme is Creating Together: Jewish Approaches to Creativity and Collaboration, which is a wonderful opportunity to tie Jewish text learning with the Thanksgiving holiday.

Most synagogues will celebrate the Day of Learning on November 17, but a calendar conflict necessitates our Day of Learning to be moved to the following Sunday, November 24.

RSVP to the Temple Office at 305-235-1419 or email us at  Lunch will be provided, so we need to know how many will be attending, please!  Deadline is Friday, November 22.

Progressive Dinner

italain-food-items.jpg

Hello everyone:

It's that time of year again when we start planning for Temple Beth Or's Progressive Dinner.  The date for the 2013 Progressive Dinner is, Saturday, January 11, 2014.  We are looking for volunteers to host the entree portion of the evening, and Irene and I were wondering if you would be willing to serve as a host house.

Our 2014 Progressive Dinner will be extra special. We will be beginning and ending our evening in the same place, thanks to the generosity of Ilien and Keith Hechtman. We will initially gather at the Hechtman home for appetizers to get the evening off to a great start.

Once the guests leave the Hechtmans, they will head to their assigned host house.  Hosts are responsible to serve a salad, main dish with some side dishes, bread, and something to drink.  Temple Beth Or provides each host house with two bottles of wine -- one red and one white.

You and your guests eat and talk for a couple of hours and leave to return back the Hechtman home by 10 p.m. for the dessert portion of the night.  It's a great way to rekindle old friendships and make new ones.

Irene and I do all the behind the scenes arrangement of assigning folks to the houses and so forth.  As an added benefit, guest hosts are not required to pay the fee for the dinner.

It's great fun and we hope you'll consider hosting.

Please let us know as soon as possible whether you'll be able to be a host. Feel free to respond by email to annette075@aol.com or you can call either Irene or me if you have any questions.  We look forward to hearing from you. Please contact one of us as soon as possible so we can properly plan the dinner.

Best,

Annette & Irene

Annette's home number is 305-234-8868

Irene's home number is 305-251-4336

Meeting Announcement

Temple Wish List

Thanks very much to those folks mentioned last week and to those who wished to remain anonymou.

Here's the next item we can really put to good use:

Home Depot sells an Olympian (brand) flatbed 4-wheeled cart, 600 pound capacity, with a folding handle for easy storage, that would make moving chairs and other heavy objects a lot easier when we're preparing for an event or program -- think of the Yard Sale!  It retails for under $70 and is a genuine back-saver!

Garden and Grounds  Wish List

Thinking of replacing your older lawn-care equipment?

To save $500 or more per year, the TBO Grounds Department needs some equipment, in good running condition, or nearly so!

1. Large lawnmower
2. Edger
3. Weedeater
4. Large chainsaw

Contact Jeff Tucker at JMTucker007@gmail.com if you can help.  Thanks!

Do you have an old "box style" TV that works?

Looking for an excuse to replace it?  We've got one, ready-made.

Marcy Prince can take old, working TV's with the following specifications: TV's must have outlets for DVD/VHS/game hook-up; no larger than 27".

Marcy is  also seeking DVD and VHS players and cable boxes.

These would be made available to women who need assistance in getting a roof over their heads and don't have the means to purchase luxury items.

Please contact Marcy at mprince@miamidade.gov
