Shabbat Shalom!
Kabbalat Shabbat services this Friday, May 17, will be lead by Rabbi Mark Kram, whose topic will be "So We've Reached the Pinnacle.....Now...??"
The Shavuot Oneg Shabbat will be sponsored by Yvonne Wilensky.
|
D'var Torah So we've reached the pinnacle -- Mount Sinai. And our track from slavery in Egypt (Passove) is almost complete.
Now we only need to achieve the Holy Land. Our next stop.
But for us, Sinai begins to feel just right. Receiving either the Torah of the Ten Commandments -- a discussion the rabbis continue to have -- we get our Constitution, our laws, and the basis for our actions day-to-day, between people and between us and God.
But what do we understand of these 10 utterances? How did they figure in our day-to-day actions?
As Reconstructionist Jews, that is our struggle. We look to the past to see whether or not it applies to the present. And we look to the words to see whether or not they apply to our lives.
Think about how you personally, and we communally, look at the Ten Commandments. Are they mitzvot (actual commandments)? Or are they options? Or opportunities?
Join us this Shabbat for a new look at the 10 utterances/Commandments and decide with us.
Shabbat Shalom.

The Chit Chatters are back at Beth Or this Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
This discussion group addresses topics of local, national and international interest with a distinctly Jewish approach. We talk about cultural, legal, educational, social, political, religious and secular subjects, with a text usually from the media to start us off.
Now that we are back at the Temple, there's always room for one more, so please don't hesitate. If you're available, so are we.
If you want to be included on the Chit Chat email list, please contact Mike Leslie at hebrewnatl@aol.com.

No full time job openings- just help our new Adminsitration, with or without a big job-title!
For many leadership roles just One Hour Per Week would suffice - assuming a quota of fellow congregants step up to manage TBO's community, 2013-14.
Don't:
A) quit your day job
B) crowd your busy schedule
Do:
A) commit to add your voice
B) help our Incoming Leadership serve Beth Or's traditions and preserve its future!
