Garden and Grounds
Beth Or's ORGANIC GARDEN continues to grow!
Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"
Richard Freer's PROBLEM: ONLY 20% of the tomato plantings were viable/ and 10% bore any fruit!
SOLUTION: A local Master Organic Gardener has kindly offerred free advice and consultation to Beth Orians wanting to get their hands dirty and fill their plate with home-grown produce! Call Wilfredo Candelaria at (786) 234-7520.
Repairs are underway on the raised beds. Organic Garden expert, Laura Sutton is helping Jeff enhance the soil, weed and prepare the garden infrastructure for (so far) 3 Managed Beds from the congregation:
Mel & Amy Tenen 3' x 8'
Mark Rosenbloom 4' x 4'
Pat Barron 3' x 8'.
We all await some irrigation/sprinkler repairs from our contractor to insure optimal watering of plants. Also our 5 varied Banana trees are about to get mulched with TLC by Laura.
So, do you want to operate one of the remaining beds?There's no charge and supplies are mostly available (or BYO.) Depending on the level of participation we may have a workshop or training session this season.

Passover: Second Seder and
Fabulous Potluck Supper
The Second Seder, on Tuesday, March 26, will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Pot Luck at 7:00. Beth Or Kosher for Passover -- you know the rules! And.. please bring your own wine or grape juice for the Seder.
Please let us know as soon as you can what you plan to bring so we can see if we have enough variety of food: email to the Temple bethortemple@aol.com. We'd appreciate it if you'd not wait to see what's needed. If we find we have an over- or under-supply of something, we'll let you know.

Thom Elliott's One-Man Photography Show
Here's what Thom has to tell us about the show running through the month of March at Pitman Photo Supply, 13911 S. Dixie Highway.
The title of the show is "People, Places, Things, Photos For My Heart."
90% are Black and White and taken over a period of years from 1958 up to the present 2013. Most are done with a film camera in my traditional home darkroom. Most were done just because I wanted to do, and some were paid assignments that I would have done anyway. These I call my "Silver Box Assignments" meaning I would have done them for free however I also got paid to do them: a double bonus. Most are photographs of people.
I did some in Europe, New York, Hollywood and here in Miami. I plan on being at the gallery during Pitman's business hours. Which means there till 7 pm week days and also on Saturdays and Sundays.

Alper JCC Children's Museum 10 Year Celebration
From now till May 5, 2013...
The nationally acclaimed children's exhibition Chagall For Children, that opened the Alper JCC's Lisa Ann Watson Children's Discovery Museum in 2003, is back to entertain and educate a whole new crop of youngsters.
The vibrant and interactive exhibit brings the colorful and dream-like world of artist Marc Chagall to life. In a series of 14 exploration stations, boys and girls use their senses to discover art principles such as color, composition, light and texture. The exhibit features music, computers and art and allows children to create with the childlike freedom of one of the world's greatest artists.
Chagall was born in Russia in 1887 and studied art in France. He learned from cubist, surrealist and fauvist painters, and developed his own imaginative style. His colorful paintings are nonrealistic and often include flowers, animals, workmen and musicians. In the exhibit, framed print images are arranged like those in an adult gallery, but each of these prints also includes an audio component and a hands-on activity.
Children create and color their own digital portraits, make crayon rubbings from a steel engraving, explore the effect of light on stained glass and rearrange a window as they would a puzzle. With the painting called 'Flowers,' children get to smell the flowers in the painting, and arrange actual flowers in a vase to recreate the bouquet like the one in the picture.
Chagall often painted faces in unusual colors. His painting "Green Violinist," is accompanied by a camera that takes a digital picture of one's face. Children are encouraged to use their imaginations, get inspired by Chagall's work, and color their portrait photo blue, green or red.
Museum visitors can learn about texture and art terms, when they compare two images - an oil painting to a bas-relief sculpture. The activity encourages kids to feel the sculpture's shape and then make crayon rubbings from the steel engraving.
Chagall for Children is designed to open one's eyes and to see the world a bit more colorfully. Although the exhibit's creators had young viewers in mind, people of all ages will enjoy the magical world of Marc Chagall.
The exhibit was created by the Kohl Children's Museum in Chicago, and runs through May 5, 2013.
