Learning to sustain and grow our meetings: Conflict Transformation workshop to be offered at US consultations
Friends' meetings and churches are not immune to conflict within their meeting community, between their meetings and among individuals. Next spring's Section Consultations have been designed to offer concrete skills that Friends anywhere can use. We have invited the Committee on Conflict Transformation of New York Yearly Meeting to facilitate a full day workshop at the 2014 Section Consultations in Sacramento, CA and High Point, NC.
The Committee on Conflict Transformation's work within their yearly meeting involves taking situations of disabling conflict and helping to facilitate the transformation of those situations into opportunities for spiritual growth. Friends World Committee is excited to be able to bring experienced facilitators to a workshop that will benefit a wide audience of Friends. Some of the aspects that will be touched on in this workshop:
-
Conflict resolution best practices within our communities
-
Understanding the perpetrators and victims of conflicts
-
How to defuse something before it ruptures a meeting
-
Conflict as a necessary step for transformation.
Regardless of which consultation you attend next year, opportunities will abound for Friends to (1) affirm our mutual Quaker identity, and to (2) commit to practices that foster a thriving Religious Society of Friends
