Ash Wednesday and Lent
  
Ash Wednesday
Lent began with Ash Wednesday worship on Wednesday, February 13th. The mid-week worship services will continue the study of The Story. Each worship service will use the Holden Evening Prayer and the small group videos for The Story will be the message each week.

The FINK confirmation students and their faith mentors will have a time for faith talk following the worship.

Each Wednesday during Lent there will be a soup supper at
Ash Wednesday
6:00pm and worship at 6:45pm.

There will be Lenten Ecumenical Devotions sponsored by the
Cuyuna Range Ministerial Association each Wednesday at 
Ash Wednesday
12:00 noon. The worship service will begin at noon with a meal to follow. The theme for this year is "Finding Our Way!" based on 
Matthew 7:7. 
 
All are welcome to attend.

Youth News

Hallett Community Center Kelly Jelencich-Klein is the new youth coordinator for Immanuel. She will be planning events for jr. and sr. high youth.

At the soup supper on February 20th Kelly will be looking for event input from youth.  They should bring their ideas! 
 
The first two events she has planned are:
  • Ice Cream SundaeMarch 9, 12-3 Outdoor Ice Skating at Hallett.  Meet at Hallet's outside rink with your skates.  Skate rental available for $2.50 at Hallett.
  • March 30, 7-9 Build your own sundae. Meet at church for some sweet fun. 
FINK and Children's Ministry

FINK: FINK is Immanuel's confirmation program. During Lent the students attend the midweek worship service with their faith mentor, discuss the service, share their highs and lows, and pray for each other.

March will be another busy month for the youth and their families at ILC! We have two milestone events coming up: 3rd Grade Bibles and First Communions.

 

Third Grade Bible
In 3rd grade, children at ILC are presented with a bible. We offer a two session study groups for parents and children, and then present the bibles during church service. The classes should be a fun time and a great opportunity to share 
your favorite verses with your child. Any families with children older than 3rd grade but have not yet recieved a bible are welcome to join! Study sessions will be held at the church. 

 

First study session: Wednesday, March 6th 5:30-6:30
Second study session: Wednesday, March 13th 5:30-6:30
Presentation of Bibles: Sunday, March 17th 10:30 service

 

Also First Communionin March, children in 5th grade will be receiving their First Communion. Please feel free to take part in this event if your child is older than 5th grade but has not yet received their first communion. The study sessions to prepare for First Communion will be held at the church on the following dates: 
Saturday, March 16th 10:00 - 11:00
Saturday, March 23rd 10:00 - 11:00
First Communion on Thursday, March 28 (Maundy Thursday)

Please watch for communication preference forms to be sent home with children after Sunday school classes. We would like to know what are the best ways to communicate with you!!

On Saturday, February 9th, ten Women of Immanuel met to make skirts for the orphan girls of Malawi.  Approximately 40 skirts were completed.

Clearwater Camp

There will be a retreat for women March 22 & 23 at Presbyterian Clearwater Forest Camp in Deerwood. Registration forms were included in the February Immanuel's Story, are available on the kiosk in the fellowship hall or you can print the Registration Form here. Once you have completed the registration form, place it and your attached check for $25.00 in either Jill Mattson or Claudia Tessmer's mailbox. The retreat will begin at 4:30pm on Friday and end at 3:00pm on Saturday. 

 

Please bring the following items:

 

  • Heavy appetizer to share for Friday supperClearwater Camp
  • Bible
  • Comfy clothes
  • Boots for walking outside, if desired
  • Sleeping bag or sheets
  • Pillow case
  • Towel/wash cloth.
Coffe, tea and water will be available.

 

  

 
Meal With a Mission

Meal With a MissionThe January Meal With a Mission on Sunday, January 20th benefitted Immanuel's puppet ministry, Puppets By Jesus (PBJ).

The February Meal With a Mission will be held on February 17th and will benefit Immanuel's Via de Cristo community.

The March Meal With a Mission will be held a week early on March 10th due to Immanuel hosting New Pathways families the week of March 17th. This meal will benefit the soup kitchen and food shelf.Meal With a Mission

MN Adult & Teen Challenge Choir

Teen Challenge  

The MN Adult & Teen Challenge Choir will be at Immanuel on Sunday, February 24th. They will share their dramatic stories of growth and new life in God, through their testimonies. They will share songs of hope and freedom from addiction. They will be at both the 9:00 and 10:30 worship services. Everyone is welcome to come and hear these amazing testimonies.

 Annual Meeting

Annual Meeting    
The 100th annual meeting of the Immanuel Lutheran congregation was held on Sunday, February 3rd. Michael Bushard, council president presided over the meeting.Annual Meeting
Some of the Joys of Immanuel were drilling of the well in Malawi, bazaar and rummage sale fund donations, volunteers for New Pathways, generosity of Immanuel Congregation to ministries, number of children in Sunday School increasing, giving to food shelf and soup kitchen, The Story, and ongoing additions to technology. New council members are Chris Rudek, James Freese and Becky Pakarinen. Re-elected were Michael Bushard and Dick Gunter. Mark Boike will serve as council president, Dick Gunter as vice president and Ruth Imberi as secretary.

Other business at the meeting was the approval of sabbatical policy, election of delegates to the LCMC gathering in Dearborn, Michigan in October. The delegates are Pastor Paul and Jill. A nominating committee for council members for 2014 was formed. This committee will consist of Pastor, outgoing council members, John Klopfleisch, and Claudia Tessmer. The congregation voted "No" to ratify NALC's application to Lutheran World Federation.
