Almost!
We figured we would be able to share the first blueberry blossoms of the season by newsletter time, but the past few cool damp days have slowed down the plant's progress. As seen in the photo above the flowers are almost ready to open. We expect to find a couple that have done just that by day's end.

2016 CSA Power Play It's time to plant, but not without protection from the local deer. There are many types of deer exclusion fences, but after considering efficacy, aesthetics, and cost effectiveness we decided on what is known as the "Penn State Five Wire Electric Deer Fence." We don't mind sharing a little bit of our crops with wildlife, but our losses have mounted steadily each season until action became imperative. The photo above shows the solar charger for the fence system being hooked up.
The 2016 USDA Certified Organic weekly shares will be approximately one half bushel in size. This volume is roughly equal to a full paper grocery bag. Non corporate distributions will be on Saturdays.

New this year!
Announcing a corporate CSA program.
We will begin partnering with area companies and institutions that have employees wishing to receive CSA distributions. Deliveries will be made directly to the partner's location on either Thursday, or Friday afternoons near the end of the business day. We believe this will allow us to more efficiently spread out our harvest and distributions while providing convenience and additional opportunities for area residents to receive fresh, local, organic produce. Please contact the farm for additional details.
In addition to picking up the shares here at the farm we anticipate using the same drop sites as last season. Competitive Gear Bicycle Shop in Millcreek, and the Whole Foods Co-Op in Erie.
Home delivery is available in the city of Erie and the following townships; Fairview, Franklin, Girard, Greene, Harborcreek, McKean, Millcreek, Summit, Washington, and Waterford
Sign up forms are available at the farm, or you can sign up electronically on the CSA page at www.hunterfarmsorganic.com Past members with no change in contact information can simply let us know you wish to sign up. We can complete the form for you using the information in our records.
We are very much looking forward to serving our 2016 CSA members! Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Bike Around the Bay By Catie Strout, GreenEriePA Intern
On Saturday, May 14, 2016, Environment Erie's annual "Bike Around the Bay" will take place at Presque Isle State Park. As of this year, all rides will begin and end at the Cookhouse Pavilion and lunch will be served at the Rotary Pavilion. This event is open to both individuals and families.
According to Kaitlyn Vitale of Environment Erie, "Bike Around the Bay is a great way for families or individuals to get outdoors and be active, all while supporting Environment Erie and their educational programs. Between riders and volunteers, we have 400 participants each year!"
