Clean Up Crew
The blueberry bush trimming is complete. The dormant period is over and the plants are vital. We are now moving all the trimmed material out of the fields. Leaving any trimmed or dead material from any crop in the cultivated area is not a good cultural practice. The residue from any crop is attractive to pathogens and pests that are harmful to that specific crop. This clean up step is particularly important in organic production.
Fruit Bud SwellBoth the red color and the swelling fruit buds tell us the season has changed. Each of these buds should ultimately produce a cluster of beautiful blueberries. All we need to do now is run the gauntlet of late frost, pollination, insect damage, extended wet periods, and extended dry periods. No worries! Amorous Amphibian
We took this glamour shot at the edge of a vernal pond along Elk Creek on our farm property. This country crooner and the other members of the peep frog community began their spring serenade a few days ago. Warm spring nights at the farm are filled with their cheerful chorus.

New this year!
Announcing a corporate CSA program.
We will begin partnering with area companies and institutions that have employees wishing to receive CSA distributions. Deliveries will be made directly to the partner's location on either Thursday, or Friday afternoons near the end of the business day. We believe this will allow us to more efficiently spread out our harvest and distributions while providing convenience and additional opportunities for area residents to receive fresh, local, organic produce. Please contact the farm for additional details.
In addition to picking up the shares here at the farm we anticipate using the same drop sites as last season. Competitive Gear Bicycle Shop in Millcreek, and the Whole Foods Co-Op in Erie. We are looking into the possibility of adding others in the east and south county.
Home delivery is available in the city of Erie and the following townships; Fairview, Franklin, Girard, Greene, Harborcreek, McKean, Millcreek, Summit, Washington, and Waterford
Sign up forms are available at the farm, or you can sign up electronically on the CSA page at www.hunterfarmsorganic.com Past members with no change in contact information can simply let us know you wish to sign up. We can complete the form for you using the information in our records.
We are very much looking forward to serving our 2016 CSA members! Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
