Balled and Burlapped

We were unable to get any plants dug for sale last fall, but the early spring weather has provided an opportunity to make up for the lost time.  The variety that is ready and available this spring is Blueray.  The bushes are of course great at producing berries, but are often planted as a native ornamental.  The white flower clusters are beautiful through May, and the mahogany colored leaves warm up any fall landscape.  The multi-caned plants will produce berries this year and are available at the farm store for $30.00 each.

Circle Of Life

Finding bones, patches of fur, and other animal remnants is a daily occurrence at the farm.  The neighborhood coyotes, along with other predators and scavengers, are quite efficient at using and distributing the remains of kills, or of animals that have died of natural causes.  The remains pictured above were left at the wood's edge near one of our goldenrod fields and are more intact than most.

Saint Patrick's Day Green

The clothes, makeup, and colored beer sported by the revelers in downtown pubs aren't the only places to find some green today.  Our irrigated
vegetable patch is carpeted with the cereal rye we used as a cover crop. The crop will soon be tilled in as "green manure" as we begin CSA production.

New this year!
Announcing a corporate CSA program.
We will begin partnering with area companies and institutions that have employees wishing to receive CSA distributions. Deliveries will be made directly to the partner's location on either Thursday, or Friday afternoons near the end of the business day. We believe this will allow us to more efficiently spread out our harvest and distributions while providing convenience and additional opportunities for area residents to receive fresh, local, organic produce. Please contact the farm for additional details.

In addition to picking up the shares here at the farm we anticipate using the same drop sites as last season. Competitive Gear Bicycle Shop in Millcreek, and  the Whole Foods Co-Op in Erie. We are looking into the possibility of adding others in the east and south county.

Home delivery is available in the city of Erie and the following townships;  Fairview, Franklin, Girard, Greene, Harborcreek, McKean, Millcreek, Summit, Washington, and Waterford

Sign up forms are available at the farm, or you can sign up electronically on the CSA page at www.hunterfarmsorganic.com   Past members with no change in contact information can simply let us know you wish to sign up.  We can complete the form for you using the information in our records.

We are very much looking forward to serving our 2016 CSA members! Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Sign Of the Season

Eric just released his annual spring sensation, Maple Chipotle Salsa, but that's not all.  The Maple Chipotle and all Beelzebub's Salsas are now produced using an updated process.

Change is Good!

Eric says,
"The NEW consistency of our salsa is so much better than before, due to our new commercial food processor.  In every small bite you can taste ALL the ingredients, seriously like a new salsa after 5 years! Strongly encourage you to revisit some of your flavors."
