Full Circle  

This year's harvest is complete and it's time to prepare the field for next spring's planting. After clearing away all remaining crop residue the vegetable field was tilled in preparation for seeding the winter cover crop.

The cover crop will protect the field from erosion, and next spring will be tilled into the vegetable beds as fertilizer.

As the saying goes, "All good things must come to an end."  This Saturday marks the final CSA distribution of the 2015 season.  Members are reminded to return all their bins.  The final shares will be provided in non-returnable boxes. 

This week the shares divide all our remaining storage crops.  The shares will include an assortment of Squash Varieties, Cured Candy Onions, Green Cabbage, and Red Potatoes.
 
We thank all members for their participation and look forward to next year.  As in previous years, we invite comment and criticism of our CSA.  After receiving everyone's input we will refine the program and announce any changes, and the dates for next season.

As if farming on earth isn't challenging enough, scientists from Washington State University, and the University of Idaho have opened a case study for farming on Mars.  Using the popularity of the Matt Damon movie "The Martian" professors are using the exercise to teach students about making choices, and problem solving.
