Water Logged

A casual observer would have to wonder why someone would water their wood pile, but a closer look shows these are the farm's Shiitake Mushroom Logs.  Along with watering the field crops through our recent hot, dry spell we kept the mushroom patch cool, moist, and shaded.

2015 CSA

The first distribution in August will include the first tomato of the year!  Yes, that is singular on purpose.  While our tomatoes are just starting to color up, we were able to get a case of field ripened ones from Kretschmann Farms. Located just north of Pittsburgh, the Kretschmanns have distributed our blueberries through their Certified Organic, thousand plus member CSA for at least twenty years.  We, and everyone else in our CSA can't wait for tomatoes, but cool weather through early summer has ours far behind where we want them to be.  It is interesting to note that tomatoes 100 miles south are just now ripening, but some prominant farm stands in our area have offered "Fresh and Local" tomatoes, corn, watermellons, and other late summer crops for many weeks now. We suppose they were fresh and local somewhere, but it can't be from around here.  Also included in this week's distribution are Bleuberries, Yellow Beans, Zuccini, Acorn Squash, and back by popular demand, Green Kale!
