Putting the asparagus bed, to bed

Granddaughter Autumn, and grandson Eli are pictured above. They are spending their summer vacation working on our family farm. The crew is busy putting up trellis lines to support the asparagus ferns from the high winds we often experience across the open fields. A final weeding and mulching will complete the tasks for this crop until the ferns turn brown and are cut at the end of fall. CSA members will get the final few spears from our, and Clarion River Organic's asparagus patches. Unfortunately, the main harvest occurs long before the CSA season begins, but we are glad to be able to include at least some of this spring time treat.

Members picking up at Competitive Gear, or the Whole Foods Co-op

Please check in with the farm via e-mail, or by phone to confirm your choice of pick up location. We omitted a specific check box on the signup forms leading to some uncertainty, and we still have a few members who were undecided as to the most convenient location.

Members picking up at the farm can stop out from 9:00 to 5:00 on Saturday

Members taking home delivery can expect delivery by mid morning.  Please let us know if you have any special drop off instructions.

As expected, the first distribution of certified organic produce will consist mostly of spring greens including White chard, Collard greens, Green Kale, and Red Crisphead Lettuce.  Also included will be Rhubarb, and Asparagus, as noted above.
