The developing blueberries pictured above have run the gauntlet of brutal winter cold, spring fungus potential, and killing frost during blossoming. The bloom is now complete and warmer than average temperatures at the end of May, along with ample rainfall, accelerated the berry's sizing and maturation.  We are looking forward to a good crop!

Snow White

Locust trees in our region were graced with an exceptionally heavy bloom the year. The trees pictured above at our farm were not only beautiful, they provide a highly prized source for spring honey production. Our bees switched seamlessly from the blueberry bloom to the locust bonanza. Beekeeper Al Machinski added extra frames to his hives in anticipation of heavy honey production. We look forward to having the spring honey available soon at the farm store.

www.goerie.com published an article about beekeepers losing 43 percent of their colonies over the winter. The article directly quotes local bee keeper Charles Vorisek. We have known and dealt with Charlie for many years. We continue to carry his pure beeswax candles, both votive and taper candles here at the farm store. In order to find out more about the local beekeepers situation read the article below.
