Trimmed blueberry canes being removed from the fields

Late winter snow pack caused a several week delay in the start of blueberry bush trimming.  Our unseasonably cold weather since snow melt has at least given us an extended window for the job before the plants broke dormancy.   As seen above, we took full advantage of the natural grace period, and now the trimmed material is being stacked up around the fields.

Environment

The use of drones in agriculture is already common, and many more uses for crop and livestock monitoring and management are predicted for the near future. Besides saving time, and money, drones greatly reduce the need for ground vehicles thereby saving significant amounts of fossil fuels.  While these savings are welcome for improving environmental quality, they pale in comparison to the environmental advantage envisioned by former NASA Engineer, Lauren Fletcher.  Fetcher's start-up company, BioCarbon Engineering, promotes nothing less than reforesting the earth.  The company's motto is, "Changing the world one billion trees at a time."  The link below includes a brief video, and a description of exactly what they have in mind.

2015 CSA

Lined Up at the Starting Gate

Frozen soil has turned into mud, but the time is near to start planting the early CSA crops.  As soon as the ground is "workable"  the greens shown above, along with other cold tolerant veggies will be planted to time
their harvest with the CSA distributions.

The 2015 USDA Certified Organic shares will be distributed in returnable, half bushel, food grade, sanitized bins.  This volume is roughly equal to a full paper grocery bag.  Distributions will be on Saturdays.

We offer two options:  A full season membership will consist of twenty weekly distributions beginning on Saturday, June 13th. with the final distribution on Saturday, October 24th.

A core membership will consist of ten weekly distributions beginning on Saturday, July 11th, with the final distribution on Saturday, September 12th.

The cost of the full season membership is $600.00
The cost of the core season membership is $300.00

The number of memberships is limited.

Full payment for the full season share will be due on or before May 1st.
Full payment for the core season share will be due on or before June 1st.

We are using the same drop sites as last season.  Competitive Gear Bicycle Shop in Millcreek, and  the Whole Foods Co-Op in Erie.  We are looking into the possibility of adding others in the east and south county.

We are continuing our home delivery option.  We are very much looking forward to serving our 2015 CSA members. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
