Farm News

Not long ago we shared a photo of the first few fruit buds to set on our blueberry bushes.  Now that all the leaves have dropped and the bud set is complete on even our late fruiting varieties, a complete assessment of next year's potential yield is possible. To say we have been apprehensive after 2014's weather extremes is an understatement. However, as shown in the photo above, the new growth,as well as the bud count on our plant's terminal shoots, is extremely encouraging.  Each of the buds visible above have the potential to produce a cluster of berries.

CSA News

2015 CSA

In order to accommodate members who wanted a focused time frame for distributions when the maximum diversity of crops are available we will offer a core season consisting of ten weekly distributions.  The core season will begin on Saturday, July 11th, the final distribution on Saturday, September 12th.  The cost for the core season membership is $300.00.

For members who wanted a full spectrum of crops throughout the growing season we will offer a full season share consisting of twenty weekly distributions.  Similar to last year's time frame distributions for the full season will begin on June 13th, the final distribution on Saturday, October 24th. The cost for the full season membership is $600.00.

Last season's members and prospective members who have asked to be placed on the waiting list are guaranteed a membership if desired at this point in time.  Further details on the 2015 CSA and sign up deadlines will be announced in future newsletters and will be posted on the Hunter Farms website.  We are truly looking forward to serving the community in 2015.

As a member of the Local Harvest organization Hunter Farms participated in a survey of many CSA's across the country.  The results of the survey were recently released and the findings reflect our experience quite closely.  CSA members who are interested in the findings can click on the link below.
