Farm News

After much anticipation, sweet corn season is finally upon us. It was a long wait for fresh, local sweet corn, but we hope you'll agree that it was worth it. Much like blueberries, tomatoes, and a whole host of crops, unusual weather patterns significantly delayed growing and ripening of corn in our region. Despite cool, wet weather, we were very happy to include local farmer Andy Sabol's sweet corn in last week's CSA distribution and we're very happy to continue doing so as the season continues. If you're not a CSA member, we'll have Sabol's corn in the Farm Store, located in Fairview, so stop on out and pick some up!

CSA Distribution Bin Reminder

As a continuing reminder throughout the season, we ask that all CSA participants please remember to return their distribution bins each week. Sustainability and food safety are of supreme importance to us, and these reusable bins, which are sanitized each week, are an important part of our efforts to operate in a sustainable, responsible manner. We very much appreciate your cooperation. Thanks!

2014 CSA Late Season - Shares Now Available

As mentioned in a supplementary email sent out just the other day, this week marks the final week of the 2014 CSA's Early Season and several shares have become available. If you're interested in signing up, please contact us at hunterfarms@yahoo.com or call the farm office at 840-4370.

The first shares of the Late Season will be distributed on August 23rd and will continue until the 25th of October. We want to thank everyone who participated in the Early Season for making it possible and for those members who are unable to participate in the Late Season, we hope to see you again next year.

For those members who are participating in the Late Season, we want to welcome you and look forward to sharing a bounty of fall crops. Fortunately, the same cool, wet weather that has delayed summer fruits and vegetables has been a boon to carrots, cabbage, beets, broccoli, and other fall crops that prefer more temperate weather. Here's to anticipation of a fall full of fantastic organic produce!

CSA Share Information

The share list for the 2014 CSA's eigth week includes:

Certified Organic:

Blueberries
Cantaloupe
Chives
Genovese Basil
Green Beans
Slicing Tomatoes
Sweet Corn
Available at the Farm Store

As a reminder, we are still continuing to stock two recent new additions to the farm store, both created in collaboration with Eric Laughery of Beelzebub Salsa. They're unique culinary experiences you won't find anywhere else. The first is Beelzebub's brand new Blueberry Salsa, made with Hunter Farms Organic Blueberries just picked from our fields. It's as fresh as fresh can be and unlike any other salsa we've tried. Of course we're biased, but if you already love our berries and Beelzebub's salsas, we think you'll love the combination.

In addition to the blueberry salsa above, we also have a limited supply of pickled organic asparagus grown here at the farm and pickled using a unique recipe Laughery crafted just for us. It's a twist on asparagus you won't soon forget. A little sweet, a little spicy, and incredibly full of flavor, we think it's another winning combination.

Weekly Special

This week's sale is on our Fresh Little Farm Girl Garden Thyme bar soap. One of the primary inspirations for beginning the Farm Girl line of organic soap and bodycare products was to find a productive outlet for the abundance of herbs and spices grown right here at the farm. Our Garden Thyme soap is the perfect embodiment of this mission and if you haven't already tried it, we think you'll love its comforting scent and unique texture designed to exfoliate and remove stubborn grime. This week Garden Thyme soap bars are on sale for $2.99 from the usual $3.99. Stop out to the Farm Store, located at 7269 Sterrettania Road in Fairview and give them a try.
