Farm News

The return of warmer weather found us back working in the fields this week.  Above you see Richard accomplishing one of our most important winter tasks: trimming blueberry bushes. The goal of this work is to remove older, less productive cane, thin the plant to prevent abrasion which can present an opportunity for pests and disease, and reduce the overall number of canes to ensure plants put a sufficient amount of energy into production of high quality berries. With more than 5000 blueberry bushes at the farm, this process takes quite some time, but it ensures healthy plants and large, flavorful berries in the summer.
New At The Farm Store

Many of you already use and enjoy our Fresh Little Farm Girl soaps.  This week, we're happy to announce a new product that we think will help you enjoy the purest soap in the country even more.  Made entirely in the U.S., Simply Body Soap Nets are an ingeniously designed soap holder that exfoliates and ensures you get the most out of your Fresh Little Farm Girl bar soaps. They're great for preventing residue buildup resulting from soap resting on ledges or in trays and allow you to use even the tiniest pieces of bar to ensure nothing goes to waste.  Stop by the farm store at 7269 Sterrettania Rd any Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm to check them out.

Link of the Week
Earlier this month, Cheerios manufacturer General Mills announced they would no longer include genetically modified ingredients in their long-popular cereal.  The twist: the company recently spent more than $2 Million to defeat ballot initiatives in California and Washington state that would have required more strict labeling of products that contain GMO ingredients. Where does General Mills really stand on the topic of GMO ingredients? Are they motivated by conscience or profits?  Check out the link below to learn more.
