New at the Farm Store

We're excited to announce the release of two new Fresh Little Farm Girl soap products: Lavender and Lemongrass Liquid Hand Soap.  We're particularly excited because we've developed these newest additions to the Farm Girl lineup in collaboration with Karen Rzepecki of reCap.  We think the combination of reCap's new reusable Mason jar pump-top and our new lemongrass and lavender scented liquid soaps are a match made in heaven.  In addition to these great new products, the collaboration has resulted in the development of new labels which provide a fresh new look for a fresh new product.

Seasonal Cranberry Salsa Available For a Limited Time

We're also excited to announce the availability, for a limited time, of a delicious new seasonal salsa from Beelzebub.  Beelzebub's Cranberry Salsa is made using fresh, organic cranberries from Cape Cod and it's proving a big hit for Beelzebub.  Stop by our Saturday store from 10am to 5pm and try it for yourself.  We think you'll love it.

We'd like to once again thank everyone who participated in the CSA survey for doing so. At this point in time, we feel we've received all the responses we're probably going to get and we have some initial results to share. We were extremely gratified to see that the majority of shareholders responded favorably to the survey. Even with that positive response, as we had hoped, we were able to discover a few specific aspects of the CSA that we feel will allow us the opportunity to make improvements for next year's program.

Two primary concerns were the quantity of some items and the duration of the CSA.  It was felt by some members that there was too large a quantity of some items and they were unable to make use of this bounty in a timely manner.  As producers, we intend to address this issue by spreading out our plantings and harvests in order to provide greater variety, reduce overproduction, and to distribute these items over a longer period of time.  Although we will endeavor to address this issue to the best of our abilities, it must also be remembered that it is the nature of a CSA that members receive what is seasonally available and must be prepared to take advantage of seasonal bounty.  We know from our own personal experiences that this is sometimes difficult, but with a little additional planning and preparation, it can be very rewarding to overcome the challenge of taking advantage of seasonal abundance. The second most often commented upon aspect of the CSA was the duration of the season.  Some members felt it was too lengthy a season and we intend to address this the way many other CSAs do by offering several shorter duration options next year.  We feel this will provide greater flexibility and more options for shareholders to determine which times of the year they would like to receive CSA distributions and the length of time they would like to be involved.

In addition to these primary concerns, we believe that there are several other minor changes that we will be able to make in order to improve the experience for next season and we will inform you of those changes and formalize next season's program very shortly.

Link of the Week
You may remember an earlier Link of the Week to sustainability educator Annie Leonard's Story of Stuff, a meditation on the social and environmental consequences of consumerism.  This week, we'd like to direct you to the Story of Bottled Water, a short and informative video produced by the Story of Stuff project which deals with the bottled water industry, its manipulative approach to marketing, and the massive environmental damage it is responsible for. Check it out and let us know what you think.
