We are pleased to announce the addition of
Middlefield Cheese Co-op's Amish Cheeses
to our store's selection of fresh and local products.

Located south of Painesville, Ohio, this 250-acre farm cooperative
produces high-quality cheese made from milk produced by open -pastured, grass-fed, and organically raised cows. The cheeses are
made Old World style in large wooden vats guaranteeing a rich texture and
excellent flavor. Additionally, these superior quality cheeses are BST- and hormone-free.

We have the following selection of cheeses available in
8 oz. packages priced at $5.29:

Mild Cheddar
Farmer's Cheese
Marble
Pepper Jack
Horseradish
Smoked Cheddar
Sharp White Cheddar

In addition to the new cheeses, we will offer, as usual,
an array of local, organic produce, antibiotic- and
hormone-free meat, free-range chicken eggs, local
honey, and other unique local foods and products.

Around the Farm
All good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, that includes blueberry season. The photo above shows the crew taking down and packing away the protective bird netting for winter storage. While we will no longer be able to offer fresh blueberries, we do have frozen berries available in five pound (one gallon) bags for $30. These berries are available at the same per-pound price as the fresh berries you've enjoyed all season.

Our farm stand will remain open
Monday through Saturday 10:00AM - 6:00PM
until Saturday, August 31st.
We will remain open after August 31st
Saturdays 9:00AM - 5:00PM
until December 21st, or by appointment.

Recipe of the Week

Bacon, Egg, Tomato, Lettuce, and Mayonnaise Sandwich

This delightfully messy variation on the classic BLT is a perennial favorite at the farm during fresh tomato season. Our favorite ingredients include Grabski's farm-fresh bacon and eggs, organic whole wheat bread, crisp organic lettuce, traditional mayonnaise, and fresh, juicy tomatoes from our farm. Makes two delicious sandwiches.

Ingredients:

6 slices of bacon

2 eggs

4 slices of bread

3-4 leaves of lettuce

2-4 tablespoons of mayonnaise

2 tomatoes, sliced

Preparation:

1. Peel tomatoes and cut into thick slices.

2. Spread a thick layer of mayonnaise on each slice of bread (not toasted!). Start building the sandwiches with a layer of lettuce and a few tomato slices.

3. Fry bacon until crisp. Remove strips from pan and add to sandwiches, two to three slices each.

4. Crack eggs into hot bacon grease. Break yolks and allow eggs to cook until they are firm enough to flip with a spatula. Cook on both sides until firm.

5. Top the sandwiches each with one egg and the last slices of bread.

These are a little hard to handle (and best eaten over the kitchen sink) but the combination of textures and flavors make it more than worthwhile. Enjoy!
