Cattails
The photo above shows a sweep of cattails in one of our two ponds.  This is the type of emergent growth that we encourage.  This habitat serves creatures great and small, like the snapping turtle shown below.  Cattails also act as a  component of ponds and wetland areas that are capable of filtering and cleansing natural systems of impurities.
Wildlife
Common Snapping Turtle
Snapping Turtles love our ponds, and we sometimes get the opportunity to see them roaming around the yard.  This prehistoric looking beast is a sight to behold, and acts quite ferocious when it is on land.  Because is not able to withdraw its head into its shell like many other turtles, the Snapping Turtle does as its name implies and snaps.

Link of the Week

"Clean water is under assault. The latest EPA National Water Quality Inventory indicates that agriculture is the leading contributor to water quality impairments, degrading 60 percent of impaired river miles and half of impaired lake acreage. In the United States alone, agricultural pollution accounts for 60 percent of contamination in rivers and lakes."

Your choice to eat organic food positively effects water quality.  Learn about other actions that you can take:
