Greetings from the farm. The photo below shows the blueberries coming off of our new packing line. We hope that you enjoyed the berries this week. We have four different varieties, and expect to be providing them for the next four to six weeks. Berries and other great local products are available at the farm Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Our blueberries are also available at The Whole Foods Co-op and at both Wegmans' locations in Erie.

Ground Nesting Bird Habitat Hunter Farms partners with The Natural Resource Conservation Service to manage a five acre plot of native warm season grasses used by ground nesting birds, primarily Meadowlarks and Bobolinks. Ground nesting birds are some of the most at risk species in North America due to habitat loss. We purchased the seed from Ernst Conservation Seeds in Meadville, PA. The mix includes Grain Barley, Turkey Foot Bluestem, Indiangrass, Little Bluestem, and Switchgrass.

Week Six
This week of hot, dry weather surely heralds the coming of real summer. Our crops will transition from those available in the cooler weather to the heat loving summer vegetables. We look forward to some new additions in the box as we watch the tomatoes swelling and beginning to blush. Peppers, too are bulking and ripening.
We hope that you enjoy the weekly newsletter that is included in your crate. If you have any favorite recipes that you would like to share with the rest of the shareholders please email them to hunterfarms@yahoo.com or bring a copy with you to any pick-up.

In the heat of the summer, we always enjoy getting out on the water. Maps and guides to the newly designated French Creek Water Trail are now available. We recommend that you get out and see this local treasure that is one of the most biologically diverse waterways on earth.
