Greetings from the farm.  Although the rains have made it difficult to work in some respects, the blueberries have benefited from the higher than average rainfall.  They look very good, and are sizing nicely.  We estimate that we will start harvesting in the second or third week of July.  We're looking forward to supplying both CSA members and the Erie community with fresh,
certified organic blueberries.

White-Tailed Deer
We enjoy watching the deer, particularly at this time of year because they are in their beautiful, reddish summer coats.  This year, like most, we have several fawns that we see regularly.  We have to be very cautious when mowing between the rows in the blueberry fields where their mothers may have hidden them.

Week Two

Here's an update:

First Harvest
Jessica and Jason: First Harvest

First harvest!  The picture at right shows longtime friends in the field doing work that they love.

The sunshine this week helped to dry things up a little, and allowed us to get back into the fields to catch up on weeding, seeding, and transplanting.

Much of the beginning of the week was spent on going through the garden with hoes and hands to clean up the weeds that benefited from the rainfall as much as the crops. We also  planted cauliflower, lettuces, basil, and sweet potatoes.  We seeded summer squash, winter squash, and cucumbers.
