BBQ Baked Beans

This is my new favorite summer go-to side dish. I LOVE baked beans and I LOVE fresh green beans. I have memories of summers in Minnesota picking them fresh from the garden. Oh how things grow so well when you don't live in the high desert! Nonetheless, I'm still able to purchase some fresh green beans from the Paradise Produce stand off Galveston. I frequent this place almost daily. Yes, Adam knows me by name. And my dog. I digress. One afternoon I was browsing the selection of fresh veggies and I had a stroke of brilliance. I had BBQ on my mind, and, everything that goes along with it: baked beans, grilled meat, BBQ sauce, etc. I saw the fresh green beans and had an AHA moment. Why don't I make baked beans using fresh green beans?! Brilliant! And so I got to work. I made these BBQ baked beans on three separate occasions, so the resulting recipe has been tested, tweaked, and approved.  Try it out. You won't be disappointed!

Our very own Stephanie ran her very first 100 miler at Western States.  Not only did she finish, but she finished first in the 4th fastest time ever!  Congrats Steph! Read about it on her blog: http://stephaniemariehowe.blogspot.com

Matt Lieto

Matt just raced a stellar Ironman in Whistler on June 27.  He led most of the swim coming out in 51:06 with the first group.  Although he suffered 2 flats he still got off the bike in 4:54 ready to run.  He capped of his 6th place race and 8:53 Ironman with a PR run of 3:03:43 on a tough course.  Watch for Matt at Ironman Lake Tahoe 21.  This guy eats the hardest Ironman courses for breakfast.  Read the latest from Matt's blog at:

Jay Dicharry speaks on Panel at IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Eugene, OR

Too many cooks in the kitchen? The world comes together to improve young runners

Eugene hosted the IAAF World Track and Field Championships this summer. Nations came out in full force with a huge team presence across the globe. Its pretty cool when you are in the US see a Kenyan and an Ethopian busting away from the pack, and seeing about 100 Kenyan and Ethopian fans in the stans stomping their feet and waving flags. These countries didn't just bring their talent, they brought their soul. Some impressive performances were witnessed and records fell. The future is bright, and fast!

So while some of the best and brightest runners were around, we also got some of their coaches together. USATF hosted an invite-only evening with a handful in influential coaches. The panel consisted of Jack Daniels (who needs no introduction in the running circles), Jerry Ratcliff (head Strength and Conditioning coach at U of O) and myself. The small format was meant to foster discussion and breed innovative ideas to help our runners achieve peak potential.
