It is springtime in Dixie and spring brings D Week to the Dixie State University campus! This is a fun week filled with many traditions and activities, some dating back to1915.
We are dedicating this issue of News From the Red Sands of Dixie to D Week and sincerely hope we will see you at some, if not all, of the many events that are taking place. These fun traditions only happen once a year!

I AM DIXIE | Featured Alumni
Ean A. Brandon attended Dixie from 2010-2013 and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Organizational Communication with an emphasis in leadership. While attending Dixie, as a sophomore and junior Ean served in Student Government as the Athletic Club Representative, The DCP club Vice President, The Futbol Club Vice President, President of the Service Club, X club member, and a DSU Student Alumni member.
As a Senior he joined the Student Alumni Association and became the Vice President of Social Media and a member of Lambda Pi Eta (National Communication Honors society). He attributes his time in the DSU Student Alumni Association as some of his fondest memories at Dixie.

Monday, April 11
4:30 p.m. - Mascot Reveal at the Cox Auditorium (Free)
Come learn of the new DSU athletic mascot, get a free t-shirt, stickers, and books. Overflow will be in the Gardner Center Ballroom.
5:00 p.m. - Food Fest at The Diagonal on Campus (Free)
Get some food from all the local food trucks in St. George as DSU celebrates the new mascot identity.

Tuesday, April 12
7:30 p.m. - D-Queen pageant at the Cox Auditorium ($5)
This is one of the historic traditions at Dixie State. Come see current DSU students as they complete for the title. The D-Queen pageant started in 1914 to increase school spirit through the campus and the community and has been a beloved Dixie tradition.

Wednesday, April 13
7:30 p.m. - rePercussion & Dixie Idol Performance in the Gardner Center (Free)
Dixie Idol is a DSU student vocal competition that finds the best performing talent on campus. We invite you to come to this final performance and choose who you think should win. rePercussion will also be performing that evening.

Thursday, April 14
6:00 p.m. - Break a World Record at the Hansen Stadium (Free, doors open at 5:15 p.m.)
Come help set a world record for the 'Most people to go down a slip-n-slide in 60 minutes', The first 600 people will receive a free world record t-shirt. Pre-register online now and skip the lines at the door! Ice cream and entertainment will be provided!

Friday, April 15
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Andrew Barnum Meet & Greet at the Holland Front Patio (Free)
Come chat with Dr. Andrew Barnum and learn about Dixie State's history over the last 50 years, including stories about the alligators that once lived in the Virgin River. Make sure to grab some of the free refreshments that will be available!

5:00 p.m. - The Great Race at the Hansen Stadium (Free)
The Great Race is one of the oldest traditions at Dixie which is also one of the craziest! It is a 10 person relay race that goes throughout the campus and consists of biking, running, mud pit, base running, and much more! Get a team together if you'd like and compete for the coveted title.

6:30 p.m. - DSU Carnival at the Lower Hansen Stadium (Free)
After the Great Race is finished, join us at the lower Hansen stadium field for free hot dogs, and treats! There will be games, blow-ups, and much more for the kids and you to enjoy.

Saturday, April 16
7:00 a.m. - White Wash "D" up on the black hill (Free)
White washing the D on the black hill has been a tradition at Dixie since 1915 and has been done every year. Last year we celebrated its 100th anniversary. Join us again this year and take part in this timeless tradition! A free hot breakfast will be provided afterwards by your Alumni Association served in the parking lot below the D.

7:00 p.m. - Evening of Dixie in the Zion Room of the Holland Building.
The Evening of Dixie is a night where we honor several alumni who have been an integral part of DSU. This year we will be honoring: Mace Jacobson - Big D/Roene DiFiore Award Kevin Ence - Community Service Coach Greg Croshaw - Rebel Award Ron & Nora Axton - Dixie Spirit Award
The D Queen winner from Tuesday will perform and also a performance from Raging Red. There will be prizes given away for answering Dixie Trivia and fireworks after the program is over.
