JROTC Change of Command

Cadet Command Sgt. Maj. Danica Allen, a PBHS junior, was named the next commander of the Pvt. Billie G. Kanell JROTC Battalion during the Change of Command ceremony Friday in E.T. Peters Gym.

Allen succeeds Cadet Lt. Col. Paige Hooper, who will be graduating next month. Cadet Staff Sgt. Sierre Crites, a sophomore, was promoted to cadet command sergeant major prior to the passing of the colors, representing the transfer of authority and responsibility.

Dozens of awards were also given out during the annual ceremony including the cadet of the year honor, which was bestowed upon Ethan Freeman, a freshman.

Following the event, the cadets celebrated the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Army JROTC. The federal program was instituted in the R-I district in 1995, according to school historians.
