You've got eMule!
Vol. 1 No. 13
Welcome to the eMule! Every Monday, we will send you the latest news from the Poplar Bluff R-I School District to help start your week on the right hoof.

Happy New Year's!

Anyone who is in the field of photography knows that when you break out a camera, special requests for pictures will be made. Some young people downright lose their minds in hopes of getting their 15 minutes of fame. But oftentimes the photographer is going for the candid shot, so these posed photos unfortunately never get published.

In light of the holidays, and because school is closed until Monday, Jan. 7, we thought we would end off the year by putting out a very special eMule featuring a dozen of our favorite outtakes from our school community. After all, the students are what we are here for, and no matter how caught up we get in our day-to-day job responsibilities, these smiling faces are what keep us motivated.

Our mission statement is "Achieving excellence through learning: Every child, every hour, every day." It can be seen prominently painted on the wall in the Central Office, and chairman Steve Sells makes a point to read the motto at the beginning of every school board meeting. The Poplar Bluff R-I staff vows to never lose sight of our purpose: to help prepare the next generation of community leaders. Here's a small sampling.

Enjoy!

War paint (that or a minor mishap with a marker)

Eugene Field Elementary School first grader Courtney Brown was so intrigued by the cameras in his classroom, that we decided to feature the boy in a KFVS12 news segment about teaching assistants.

High five

During the Sixth Annual Jingle Jog at Oak Grove Elementary School, second grader Carter Scobey slaps the cameraman.

I spy

Shy first grader of Eugene Field, Jerzi Gunn, hides behind fourth grader Jadarius Pigg when she discovers photos are being taken.

Posted up like a thumbtack

Lake Road Elementary School student Brandon Powers poses for the camera.

Me too!

Rashaun Bryant shows off his pearly whites.

Striking a pose

Taylor Jackson [right, front] of the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center takes a break from Christmas caroling at Westwood Hills Health Care Center to hold up his bell.

Christmas spirit

Kindergartner Journey Nix [center] becomes giddy when she finds out her photo is being taken outside of the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.

Flipping out

Lake Road student Shonika Parks [left] does a summersault on the hang bar when she finds out she may appear in the local newspaper.

Take my picture, please

Fifth grader Daytona Depler requests for a personal portrait despite the fact that the story is about new laptops at the 5th & 6th Grade Center.

A face in the crowd

PBHS student Siobhan Campbell notices an audience shot taking place when she decides to display her patriotism.

I forgot to erase that

R-I Superintendent Chris Hon tests out the new camera, apparently.

A major award!

Cadet Teaching

A new class is being offered this semester at PBHS called 'Cadet Teaching.'

Students looking to take the class need to have completed one semester of A+ tutoring. The student must also have met all the eligibility requirements of the A+ scholarship. Lastly, the student must be an active member of the FTA Club and, of course, have an interest in the career of teaching, as the assignments are rigorously related to the field. For those interested, contact A+ Coordinator Barbie Hon at 573-785-2248.

Mule Prints

Poplar Bluff Schools is excited to announce our first magazine - Mule Prints - will be released this spring. The district-wide publication written by our communications department will focus on student achievement. The magazine would absolutely not be possible without our new partnership with the Daily American Republic, whose staff will be helping every step of the way. The DAR has also most generously agreed to pay for the cost of printing. The magazine will be available for free at businesses throughout Poplar Bluff, including real estate agencies and the chamber of commerce.
