2016 Resolutions Released     

The resolutions to be considered at the 2016 UBCM Annual Convention are now available online. This includes all resolutions submitted by UBCM member local governments. Resolutions endorsed by the membership are conveyed to other orders of government or organizations involved in local affairs, as appropriate. Hard copies of the 2016 UBCM Annual Report and Resolutions Book will be mailed to each member local government.  
Funding for Local Emergency Preparedness     
 
Disability Alliance BC has received funding from Emergency Management BC to work with local authorities to meet the objectives of the Province's Accessibility 2024 initiative. DABC will be working with local authorities to ensure the needs of people with disabilities are met during emergencies and disasters. Read more 
And the Nominations Are In!      

A Call for Nominations by UBCM's Nominating Committee has resulted in a full slate of candidates running for the 13 elected positions on the UBCM Executive. Profiles of the candidate can be found in the Nominating Committee report, which will also be mailed out to members before the end of August. Read more 
Input Sought on Urban Aboriginal Strategy      

The Government of Canada is seeking input on how the Urban Aboriginal Strategy (UAS) can better meet the needs of urban Indigenous peoples. Funding for the current program was extended until March 2017 and the program will continue to operate while this engagement takes place. 
Interested in Community Energy Management?       

The Community Energy Association (CEA) has partnered with BC Institute of Technology (BCIT) to deliver six online courses that qualify students to write CEA's Community Energy Management certification exam. Read more  
New Factsheet on Burning        

The Ministry of Environment has developed a factsheet that outlines the environmental laws that apply to burning in BC. This factsheet may be useful to local government and fire department staff, in responding to the public on this topic. Read more  
Provincial C2C Forum: Date Change         

Local government and First Nation elected officials and senior staff are asked to note the postponement of the Provincial Community to Community Forum (PC2C) originally slated for October 18, 2016, to early 2017. Additional information will be provided via The Compass as it becomes available. Those with questions or comments are asked to contact us.
