Action and Outreach re: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls 

The Chair of the UBCM First Nations Relations Committee, Councillor Murry Krause, recently wrote to the UBCM membership regarding resolution 2015-B111, "National Inquiry on Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women". He detailed UBCM's action on the resolution, and encouraged members to engage with Indigenous organizations in response to the severe and widespread violence faced by Indigenous women and girls in BC communities. Updated Wildfire Threat Analysis
 
The BC Wildfire Service recently issued an update to the Provincial Strategic Threat Analysis (PSTA), a collection of datasets that are used together to identify interface areas that may be at risk of wildfire. Read more
Fund Supports Hiring, Training of Refugees
 
The new Refugee Fund, part of the Canada-BC Job Grant program, supports employers in meeting their labour market needs while providing refugees with opportunities to attain skills and employment in British Columbia. Read more
Spring Workshops: Gas Tax Fund, Asset Management
 
UBCM will host several workshops this spring, focusing on the Federal Gas Tax Fund and Asset Management in British Columbia. Workshops are scheduled for late April and throughout May in various locations around the province. Further details will follow in the March 23 edition of the Compass.
