Federal Budget Highlights
 

The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Finance, introduced the federal budget on Tuesday. The budget, Economic Action Plan 2015, introduces a balanced budget with a $1.4 billion surplus this year.   The budget makes a significant investment in new public transit projects, while also focusing on tax cuts for families and seniors, as well as national security measures. Wildfire Prevention Program Relaunched
 

Funding for forest fuel reduction plans and projects is again available under the 2015 Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative, which is being relaunched today with recently announced additional provincial funding. Read More

Province Seeks Input on Emergency Communication 
 

The Ministry of Justice is seeking input from key stakeholders, including local governments, in order to inform the future of emergency communications across the province involving 911 and police communication centres. Read More 

New Process for Approving Special Occasion Licences  
 

The Province is implementing a new online application process for the approval of liquor licences for small, low risk events. Offering online applications for Special Occasion Licences (SOLs) is expected to enhance public safety by providing officials with information in real-time about events happening in their communities. See Tracks, Think Train - Rail Safety Week   
 
Rail Safety Week events are scheduled across Canada from April 27 to May 3, 2015. In our province, the BC Committee on Rail Safety - comprised of  Transport Canada, BC Safety Authority, Operation Lifesaver, rail companies and UBCM - has joined together to promote rail safety by coordinating public outreach efforts.
