Are Care Homes in BC Safe?  


The recent tragedy at the R�sidence du Havre seniors' home in L'Isle-Verte Quebec has raised questions about the safety of care homes across Canada.  UBCM is working with the Ministry of Health, BC Care Providers Association, BC Fire Chief's Association and a number of other agencies to identify the fire safety risks of care homes in British Columbia.  Read more

BC Road Safety Strategy - Local Government Participation   

 

UBCM is seeking two local government staff representatives, who have expertise in the development of road safety strategies and related programs, to join two separate working committees established by the Province.  Read more 

2014 Wildfire Prevention Funding Update    


Current funding for the 2014 Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative (SWPI) is limited and the Provincial Fuel Management Working Group will be prioritizing funding approvals for the remainder of 2014.  Applications for the April 2014 intake are still being accepted.

The Healthy Forest-Healthy Communities Initiative has been working with communities and others to advance actions for improving long-term forest sustainability.  A webinar series is now being proposed to build on forestry knowledge in communities.  Read more
