Athletic Commissioner Act Comes Into Force
The new Athletic Commissioner Act will come into force on May 30th. The Act creates a new BC Athletic Commissioner to oversee the conduct of professional boxing and mixed martial arts events across the province. The Commissioner will ensure consistent application of safety rules for participants in professional contests through a uniform licensing and permitting framework, as well as compliance with the Act. Federal Government Seeking Feedback on Oil Spill Preparedness
The federal government is requesting feedback from local governments across Canada on their tanker safety and oil spill response regime. The Consultation Guidance Document provides interested parties with information on the key issues that need to be addressed, such as preparedness, response, liability, compensation and funding. Respondents are asked to review the contents of this document and submit ideas and solutions to the issues raised. Written submissions will be accepted until June 21, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Apply now for the BC Flood Protection Program
The Federal and Provincial Governments have partnered to fund infrastructure projects that will provide flood protection in BC. Applications (Expressions of Interest) are being accepted from Municipalities, Regional Districts and Diking Districts until May 22, 2013. Program guidelines and forms are available on the BCFCC website.
