BCTC Report Encourages Learning From Success

"I am certainly not satisfied with the progress that is being made in treaty negotiations." This was the firm stance of Sophie Pierre, Chief Commissioner of the British Columbia Treaty Commissioner (BCTC) in the 2011 BCTC Annual Report. A year has passed, and according to Pierre in BCTC's 2012 Annual Report "Learning from our Success", a significant and concentrated effort to move negotiations forward has been made. Through a series of interviews, the report highlights and acknowledges the First Nations that have completed significant milestones in their negotiations. It also gives status updates on all 60 First Nations that are in the BC treaty process, and discusses the considerable challenges that have yet to be overcome.  Click here to download the BCTC News Release.

Direction Sought on 2013 UBCM Group Benefits Conference

UBCM Member Services typically hosts a Group Benefits Conference every three years. The conference is intended to provide a learning opportunity for staff responsible for group benefit plan administration, inspire new ideas, and offer a vehicle for networking.

Given the current economic climate, UBCM is conducting a survey to determine what level of interest there is in holding a Benefits Conference in 2013, as well as relevant topics. Two surveys are available - a survey for UBCM Group Benefits Program members, as well as a survey for UBCM members who are not part of the Group Benefits Program. The deadline for feedback is December 7.
