Commitments to Consultation and Cooperation Renewed
UBCM reconfirmed its commitment to two agreements at the 2012 UBCM Convention. The first with the Province on the New Relationship with First Nations and the second with the BC School Trustees Association (BCSTA) to continue to work collaboratively on issues of mutual interest. READ MORE.
Province Responds to Mid-Term Timber Supply Report  
Forests Minister Steve Thomson announced that the Province is prepared to act in response to the report and recommendations of the Special Committee on Timber Supply. In its Beyond the Beetle: A Mid-Term Timber Supply Action Plan, the Province has indicated that it will look to increase the mid-term timber supply and utilize timber for other bio-energy purposes. Local Government Innovators Honoured at Community Excellence Awards

The 2012 Community Excellence Awards were presented at the 109th UBCM Convention in Victoria. The annual awards are designed to showcase the local governments that take risks to innovate, establish new partnerships, question established ways of doing business, and pioneer new customer service practices. Award applications were received from 70 communities throughout the province, with 12 winners acknowledged for the outstanding ideas that will now serve as examples to other local governments. In Conversation, continued
The 2012 UBCM Convention theme was In Conversation. With this theme in mind, we are seeking your feedback. How did this year's policy sessions, program, and events measure up for you? Please take a few moments to fill out the 2012 Delegate Evaluation. The data from this survey will be carefully considered by the 2012/2013 Convention Committee. 
Quality Resolutions Garner Gold
The Resolutions Committee announced at the 2012 UBCM Convention the awarding of a Gold Star or Honourable Mention to a selection of well-crafted resolutions. To be awarded a Gold Star or Honourable Mention, a resolution must meet specific drafting criteria, which are sent to UBCM members each spring.
