Glutathione: The Basics

Glutathione (GSH) is a vital antioxidant that helps your body fight free radicals, aiding your ability to recover from illness and injury, controlling inflammation, keeping your energy levels up, and much more. Here's the bad news: Even though your body produces its own GSH, as you age, levels decrease. A poor diet, stress, pollution, medications, and many other common problems all deplete GSH levels. Glutiathone is important for neutralizing free radicals and reactive oxygen compounds. It is used in virtually every part of the body, aiding in metabolic and biochemical reactions including DNA synthesis and repair, protein synthesis, amino acid transport, and enzyme activation. If your levels of GSH are low -- and it's estimated that as much as half of the adult population has a limited ability to get rid of toxins -- it can lead to numerous health issues. This melanin inhibition leads to lighter, more even skin.
