The existing College of Pharmacy building will enter its new era bearing a new name: the Joseph D. & Millie E. Williams Science Hall.
The new $35 million Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education and Center for Drug Discovery, set to begin construction in February, also will feature two auditoriums named for the couple.
Joe Williams is a distinguished alumnus and 1950 graduate of the College of Pharmacy. He rose through the ranks of the pharmaceutical company Parke-Davis. After a merger, he was elected president, then chairman and CEO of Warner-Lambert. ...read more

Faculty Spotlight
Kim Scarsi, Pharm.D., Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, is a new faculty member at the College of Pharmacy. Interests: Dr. Scarsi practices as an ambulatory clinical pharmacist as part of the University of Nebraska Medical Center HIV Program. She is the principal investigator of an NIH grant that supports her work. Her research focus is the clinical pharmacology of antiretroviral agents, as well as the safe and effective management of medications frequently used in combination with antiretroviral therapy. Ongoing projects include investigator initiated and AIDS Clinical Trial Group collaborative studies in both domestic and international sites, with an emphasis on women infected with HIV. Dr. Scarsi also works on HIV clinical care and Medication Therapy Management demonstration projects in both sub-Saharan Africa and the US to improve access to high quality HIV care throughout the world. Teaching Activities: Dr. Scarsi teaches in the Pharmacotherapy course on topics related to HIV infection and associated opportunistic infections. She is also a preceptor for the Ambulatory HIV Clinic rotation beginning in the summer of 2014.

Rapid Diagnostic Testing
The UNMC College of Pharmacy and Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., are collaborating on a study with several Midwest community pharmacies that make them among the first pharmacies in the United States to offer customers rapid-diagnostic influenza or Group A Streptococcus tests.
