Horses have always been an important part of my life, but I didn't really get hooked on dressage until four years ago. After many years of focusing on hunter/jumpers and eventing, my trainer, Kathy Johnson, sparked my interested by encouraging me to show one of her horses. I enjoyed it tremendously and never looked back. Now, I've had the opportunity to work with and show some amazing horses, and my goal is to continue training and eventually reach FEI.
This summer, I earned my USDF Bronze medal on Santiago, a kind, older Andalusian gelding. I started showing him in 2011 with the goal of earning my scores for the "L" program. After accomplishing that, we decided to keep going. I hope to continue showing Santi and move forward and up the levels with him.

I also have two horses of my own, Donatella and River. Donatella is a wonderful Westphalian cross still learning the patience needed for dressage (she prefers the jumper ring), and River is a 4-year-old Mustang born and raised on the Paisley Desert in Oregon. As River grows up, she continues to surprise me with her athleticism and stellar disposition. She'll be making her training level debut next summer.
Working as a volunteer with Boulder Valley Dressage and RMDS has been a great experience. It's always fun and educational. Next year, I'm hoping to volunteer as a scribe to learn even more. I also spend as much time as I can working with Medicine Horse Program, a nonprofit psychotherapy facility in Boulder. At Medicine Horse, I volunteer, teach, train, and help out in any way I can. There are so many opportunities to volunteer in our local dressage community, I strongly encourage everyone to lend a hand- it's fun!
Thank you to Julie and to all of our BVD Members
who volunteer on BVD Committees and projects, at special events and at shows locally and in neighboring communities!
