The Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution continues to champion the cause of patriotic education with its avid support of KDS.  During the 118th Alabama Society DAR Conference in Auburn, Ala., on March 4-6, that tradition of support certainly showed.  KDS representatives manned a sales booth and talked with interested ladies about the projects and programs of the school.

The Alabama DAR Conference also serves as a dress rehearsal' for the school's newly selected Continental Congress representatives.  During the Saturday morning DAR School Breakfast, KDS juniors Leeann Myers and Will Sanderson spoke about what makes KDS such a special place to gain an education.  And as the featured speaker for the breakfast, Suzanne Bishop Culbreth (KDS Class of 1979) shared memories of her time at KDS with attendees.
  Play Ball! First Games Played
on Renovated Fields

After many months of planning and construction, the baseball and softball fields at KDS are ready for play.

Although the fields were game-ready in early January, the first home baseball game was held on Thursday, February 18.  First-pitch honors were given to KDS Maintenance Supervisor Ricky Sutphin who worked tirelessly to ensure the project was completed to the high standards and met Alabama High School Athletic Association specifications.
  KDS Middle School Engineering Club

KDS Middle School science teacher Stephanie Guffey sponsors an Engineering Design Club for students in grades 6 through 8. There are currently 22 students participating in the club which meets on Wednesdays after school.

Students learn about the engineering design process through hands-on exploration and personal projects. In the end, students will have learned how engineers solve problems and use advance manufacturing tools such as 3D printers.
If you have a "Did You Know?" article about KDS School, the Grant community, or the state of Alabama that you would like to share with readers of our monthly newsletter, submit it  to Heather Green at hgreen@nehp.net.  If you have pictures in a digital format that relate to the article, submit them along with the article.  Many of our readers are new to the area and do not know the wonderful, rich history of KDS School and the Town of Grant.  I am sure they will be enlightened with something that you know and take for granted that everyone else knows too.
