Dedication Day 2015

Beautiful fall weather welcomed visitors from across the country to KDS DAR School's 91st Dedication Day celebration on October 15th and 16th.  More than 150 DAR members were on campus to dedicate gifts given to the school during the past year and to visit with faculty, staff, and especially the students of KDS.

Constitution Week at KDS

Most Americans know that July 4th is our nation's birthday.  Far fewer Americans know that September 17th is the birthday of our government, the date in 1787 on which delegates to the Philadelphia Convention completed and signed the U.S. Constitution. The ideas on which America was founded--commitments to the rule of law, limited government and the ideals of liberty, equality and justice--are embodied in the Constitution, the oldest written constitution of any nation on Earth. Constitution Day is intended to celebrate not only the birthday of our government, but the ideas that make us Americans. Thus, it is most appropriate that students, teachers and administrators of this school founded by the Daughters of the American Revolution observe and celebrate Constitution Week.
  KDS High School Celebrates
Homecoming Week

School spirit at KDS is running high this year with a week of Homecoming Spirit activities culminating in the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and a victory over the Westminster Christian High School football team. The Friday night game and festivities capped off a spirit-filled week of wacky dress-up days, building of floats, and decorating of hallways and doors. The homecoming parade and bonfire were, unfortunately, rained out. But the floats were displayed around the perimeter of the stadium and the powder puff football game was moved into the Burkey Center gym. This fun-filled week gave students an opportunity to express their school spirit to classmates and the community.
  KDS Students Hold
"See You at the Pole" Event

Students from KDS Middle and High School met at the flag pole outside the Baylies Building before the school day started on September 23rd to pray for their school, community and nation. The student-led event, sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, was especially poignant this year following several serious accidents involving classmates and the tragic death of a student just before the start of school. It was inspiring to see so many students voluntarily come together seeking solace in prayer.
If you have a "Did You Know?" article about KDS School, the Grant community, or the state of Alabama that you would like to share with readers of our monthly newsletter, submit it  to Heather Green at hgreen@nehp.net.  If you have pictures in a digital format that relate to the article, submit them along with the article.  Many of our readers are new to the area and do not know the wonderful, rich history of KDS School and the Town of Grant.  I am sure they will be enlightened with something that you know and take for granted that everyone else knows too.
