KDS Elementary Student Receives Homecoming Surprise
  2015 Graduation
           

On Saturday, May 16th, 92 young men and women graduated from Kate Duncan Smith DAR School.  Graduation is a KDS tradition which involves many activities and much planning and preparation.  It is the culmination of thirteen years of work and serves as the starting point for the next phase of these students' young lives.

  Senior Awards Day
           

Senior Awards Day is a time to recognize graduating KDS seniors for their achievements and to award them scholarships which will enable them to pursue their future goals.  On Friday, May 15th, approximately $850,000 in scholarships was presented to 75 deserving KDS graduates.


 

  KDS Students Serving Our Community
           
KDS Elementary Students held a canned food drive which collected 656 cans for use in food pantries.

Encouraging students to volunteer in community service projects is a way to promote personal growth and social development and has long been an integral part of the KDS student experience.  During the 2014-2015 school year, the administration, faculty and staff of KDS DAR School highlighted the importance of serving others by encouraging students to serve their community and to track their service hours.

  KDS Seniors Honored for Academic Excellence
           
On Sunday, April 19th a special reception was held to honor and recognize students for their scholastic accomplishments and to show appreciation for their hard work in the classroom.

  KDS Students Earn Eagle Scout Status
           

The Grant Boy Scout Troop 82 held an Eagle Court of Honor for three Boy Scouts who had recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Tyler Lee, Jack Pate and Anderson Turner were honored and had the rank of Eagle Scout presented to them. Very few scouts earn the rank of Eagle due to the amount of work involved in staying with the program.

  KDS 5th Graders Visit Constitution Village
and Early Works Museum
           

One hundred five KDS fifth graders, along with their teachers, visited Constitution Village and Early Works Museum in Huntsville, Alabama, in April.  This trip was a culmination of a year's study which included Native Americans, transportation throughout the Continental United States, and the Alabama Constitution.
